    Installed Telescopic Handlepost On Dahon Jetstream P8

    When I first started riding again, I have had numb hand issues. I added bar ends to my stainless Dahon Classic III. On my Dahon Jetstream P8 I first bought gel gloves and then I installed the Ergon GR2 grips with ends. These grips are wonderful, but I still didn't care for the fixed height handlepost of the Jetstream. I bought a telescopic handlepost like the one on the Speed P8 from Dahon and installed it last night. Very easy swapout.

    I love the added adjustability of my ride now. I will take more photos this weekend and go into more detail on the differences between the two handleposts as well.

    One thing I completely overlooked when I ordered the part was the foldability. The Jetstream was not the most compact folded bike to start with. The big difference between the fixed and adjustable handleposts are the side they fold down on. The stock fixed handlepost folded to the right (outside the bike fold). The telescopic handlepost folds to the left (inside the bike fold). To my surprise it really did not affect the folding.

    If you attempt this swapout you will need to make sure that you use the center screw and washer that comes with the fixed height handlepost. This is larger than the one that comes with the telescopic handlepost.

    I will post more info and pics later, but I wanted to go ahead and share my latest tweak.

    The first photo is with the telescopic handlepost. The second photo is with the stock fixed height handlepost. The photos are from different angles so it is hard to tell the height difference until you look at the shifter cable and brake lines.

    as the shorter Jetstream post with the T for the syntace stem is very sought after from folks who would like to have a stiffer shorter post you should be able to sell that..... post it over at the dahon forum in the for sale stuff I am sure you will get good money for it

    I am going to put a few miles on the telescopic post first before I decide whether or not to sell the short post.

    Here are some photos of the telescopic handlepost on my Jetstream P8. Some show the post in its lowest and some at its highest.

    You can also see the Ergon GR2 grips I added. I had to cut down the right one to work with the grip shift. These grips are great and I highly recommend them.

    I also used a velcro strap to hold the stock fixed height post to it for comparision.

    At its lowest the telescopic post is 3.25 inches higher than the fixed height post.

    At its highest the telescopic post is 6.75 inches higher than the fixed height post.

    I have been trying it at different positions. The lowest is an agressive enough position for my riding. The highest looks a bit odd, but it actually is great if I just want a slow cruise along the beach.

    In all positions I still have excellent control of the steering whether my hands are on the grips or the built in bar ends.

    I have taken it up and down the cobblestone ramp to the riverfront and everything felt strong and secure. I could not detect any extra flex from the longer handlepost.

    All in all a great mod for my riding preferences.
