Not enough DIY projects posings these days, new bikes are boooring..

This is the latest version of my Black Bmx folder (detatchable). Actually there is two of them, one for me one for my son. We did a short tour on them this summer, using the new frontracks (thank you jacub).

I had the food pannier on one side and "kitchen pannier" on the other side in the front of my bike. I had a trailer w a tent, sleeping mat ant two SMALL (three legged) chairs + the dog (on and off) behind my bike.

My son had our chlotes/sleepingbag panniers in the front of his bike. One bag for each of us. He had a sleepingpad on the rear rack. Pix from this trip later.

I put North road bars on it since I dd not like the flatbar setup.

It nice to see that piece of specialized aluminum in action, for the purpose it was made: touring .

BM, how are you mounting your grip shifter? Is that a bar-end cut to size?

Yes. I do this to be able to take it off when dismantling the bike. Since it is a detatchable not a folder it is easy to get cable and housing damaged if i do not. This autumn/winter I am going to have brazeons put in the right places and use cable connectors.

I`ll trY to find some proper touring pictures, think I must dig into my sons phone for that. One great thig about the rack is it is great for riding with the dog, and I do that a lot. He is a bit too interested in other dogs and therefor want to try to run in front of the bike to greet them. For some reason he is doing this more on the folder, maybe the wheel is so small he forget it is there. By putting a pannier "tikit style" on the right side of the front rack he is reminded by the bag. Also if he REALLY are trying no damage is done, the bag is covering the wheel. Great system.

I put one more small front rack to hold the basket. I like that the basket is low, not like it ends up on big wheeled bikes where it sometimes ends up wery high.

Is that a piece of PVC around the front stem.Is it covered in reflective tape? Nice job I tried to use a bmx bike as a mini bike a few years back but I was a bit too tall.

It isa reflective "wrap around" piece of thin metal, the type you use for keeping your trousers off the chan. I just put it there since I did not yet put a reflector on the bike, and I should have done that after the law.

The bike is a 70`detatchablerebuilt much like peopel do with the R20 bikes often shown in these forums. Maybe detatchable MTB would be abetter description, but since it`s got BMX wheels and tires..

One has got a Nexys7 and one a Sachs S7

This is what the bike looked like before I started working on it.



When new It had a beautiful sparkeling purple colour and decals w butterfyes and flowers on it. When I got it (dumpster guy salvaged it for me) it was matte and looked really old. I put the seat cower, a Nexus7 and rode it for some time to decide if I wanted to put money into it. You can see the grip shifter mounted at the seat post at that time. That way it was mounted at the rear part of the bike so taking it apart was no hassle at all.

Yes i know, ad I`ve seen tandems (home) made from them also. Not a goos idea with a heavy one or two speed (kickback) tandem, but when you reduce the weight and put a gearhub they are great bikes.

badmother, great looking bike. I wish my BF NWT would separate. It will make it easier to get in in and out of the trunk.

Can you add a closeup of the part where the two halves connect? Also, do you also split the cables?

Do not split cables yet, that is the project for the autumn/winter when I ride less. If you look at the picture where the bike is in the trailer (with th old flatbar setup) you see a small (cut down) bar end sticking out. I put the twist grip shifter on that one, fast and easy but you need a hex key.

On the other similar bike (see picture of bike innside car) I use trekkingbars, therefor no barend. The shifter is easy to remowe from the end of the trekkingbars.
