Nova in latin means "New Star".

Also,
Nova = Northern Virginia. But, why? I don't know.

Looks nice that it comes with a longer 550mm 30.4 seatpost. Assuming Yan sells these aftermarket, it could be a nice way to make older DT bikes fit taller riders.

Great! He not only stuck with that puke green but added dayglo orange? Yuck. Well, at least there's a blue option...

Hmmmm. Yan and I have talked about this bike, and there's an idea to try to bring a whole crate of them into Europe somewhere and see if we can make 'em cheap that way. Trouble is, I'm working 70 plus hour weeks, which is leaving no space for finding the appropriate storage etc facilities. Any experts on Eastern Europe who could help me with this?

MY back garden would be fine!
But only if I can have the padlock key! ( incase of difficulties.)

It needs to be somewhere in Europe, but not in the EU, for taxation reasons. My back garden is good too, otherwise!

+1

This also applies to 'African' (excluding Egypt, Tunisia, etc) and 'American' (excluding other North and South American countries).

Anyone Order One Yet?

So, has anyone ordered one yet?

How easy is it to remove the front and rear wheels?

I had been looking at the DT Mini, but since it is no longer available, I've started looking at the the Nova as a possible replacement. I would like to have a bike I can put into my small private airplane...and I mean small. The access hole to the baggage compartment is only 28" wide at it's widest point. I'm thinking I could remove the wheels get the bike though the opening, followed by the wheels.

The question is, how convenient is that? It doesn't bother me if the unfold time goes from 1minute to 5-10 minutes. But am I going to run into problems?

I bought a EZ-Pack (ridethisbike.com) and it's small enough to work, but it's definitely a low-end solution and at some time I want to upgrade.

The Nova looks like it "might" work. I hope we start seeing some first-hand reports soon.

You can have any Downtube folded and with the wheels removed in 5-10 mins. Actually, scratch that; it's trickier with IGH bikes. You can probably have them off in that time, but unless you have greater manual dexterity than me, refitting the rear wheel is fiddlier, though with a little practise, 5-10 mins would still be enough. The Nova has quick release wheels and derailleurs, so it should be piece of cake. The front wheel would just be a case of popping off the brake noodle, opening the QR cam, and removing the wheel - less than 30 secs. The rear is always a bit fiddlier, because you have to hold back the derailleur and remove the wheel in such a way as to get the cassette loose from the chain, but with practise, that's probably less than a minute too. I've yet to see a Nova in the metal though, so measurement wise I can't comment.

The Curve is nice but, on sale, but isn't it twice the price of the Nova?

Yep, about $480 for the Curve. $269 for the Nova. That's why I'm waiting for some Nova reviews!

Sammy, hem hem, but (having seen you nekkid) would guess you might be in the 200 plus range like me you'd sell a bike you couldn't ride yourself ? I guess if you could sell it sub £250 it might go, but after that I'd be buying a curve maybe given the £320 price 2009s are going at (?) And I wonder if folks who are dealing folders outside the cycle-to-work tax break scheme are losing out, or finding it tough. I had someone pitch me I would in effect get a 40% discount on a brompton, for example, today.

I'm noticing that there is no stem - Just a handlepost and handlebars. This might be a dealbreaker for taller riders or riders that might want to sit more hunched over.

True, but I think that's easily overcome with this $10 riser bar.

I had hoped to provide a review of the Nova after going to the DT Bensalem PA store today to buy one. Problem is, I opted for the DT 8FS instead for about the same money I would have paid for a tuned Nova (they add a $30 fee according to the website.) Oh well.

Can you give us your impressions of the Nova after having seen it in real life (and maybe ridden)?

I believe it's an '08 or early '09. It's no longer listed in the product lineup. The new FS is a 9 speed. Here's a review of the 8FS dated from April of this year...

https://utilitycyclist.blogspot.com/2...-2009-8fs.html

My first impressions is that the bike is a lot faster than my steel 16" folder and ofcourse more comfortable given the suspension. Still, the Nova remains a pretty good value.

The Nova looks just as sweet in real life; very clean lines. None were out of the box when I arrived at the shop (even though I had made a Saturday appointment three days earlier and was told a green Nova was in stock). As I wrapped up my purchase of the 8FS, a blue Nova was unboxed for some folks who had driven from New York. Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to ride it. B/T/W, the shop still had some green DT Mini models in stock.

The "Nova" arrived and all is well. A really nice bike. Checked everything and ready to go out of the box, Just air in the tires and adjust the seat and handlebar. A quick ride about an hour ago, 2 mi. +/-. It's 92' right now here in FLorida. I'm very pleased.
