I thought the last time the gekko was reviewed it was deemed almost unridable and the purpose of its very existance was questioned.

now that it's been mentioned, i recall reading a scathing review a few months back in the A to B website. dont be deterred by this though. your review is ultimately the only one that counts.

I've never seen that AtoB site before, I love the British humor in the reviews.

ThorUSA has the Dahon Mu UNO available for $700 shipped, so I guess the Dahon Dove for $550 ($40 for shipping) is a decent price.

If they had of been my dollars I'd have held out for a Curve SL in nice condition.

I've been actually looking into the Dove.. I'm assuming the BYA412 is the older generation and BYA661 is the newer with 16in wheels? I was thinking of buying from dhgate but if the 412 is the older gen, I'm not to sure..

My boss is in Hong Kong now but I'm not quite sure if he'd be able to purchase it as a favor and bring it back :\

Meh, he told me to give him a location within Sham Shui Po but it seems none of the bicycle stores there have them.

This seems to be the only place I would be able to grab it..but I have no idea how much it will cost me with shipping. It is kind of outrageous that you can buy these for like US $250 in China.

What OP didn't mention is weight - I think it's 9 kilos or less. Also picked one up from China a bit back, nice ride, uses standard dahon seatpost diameter so someone at 1,85m can ride this. You can fold this and get it into a typical xlarge suitcase (flite 31" equiv). Good notes @Thor on why fickle US market. Shows how much niche are [folding] bikes in general.

yep. as was previously mentioned, there are loads of after-market parts available to improve performance and bring the weight down to around 7kg. really nice. i think it would be a good general travel bike solution.

7kg?? and you can throw this into a typical suitcase without removing anything would make this a really fun cruiser on your travels! I would stick with the 14 inch wheels instead of the 16 because of the packing size in the end. It's not for long touring but from hotel stays and checking the area quickly this is the way to go! You can probably just throw this into those ikea shopping bags when you are at your destination.

Also yeah there is quite a following for tiny wheeled bikes in the far east:

some club with really neat stuff, mute the sound though!
