Suggestions for Heavy Rider? Thank you
I am looking for a folding bike that can carry me and my bag in a urban environment.
With backpack and my weight I'm looking at probably 215-240 lbs.
If not a little more more depending on the amount of books I am carrying.
I know I am asking a lot.
(I suppose I could lose weight to match a bike - haha)
But I am still searching for a folder that can handle me.
Any suggestions?
Thank you ahead of time for your help.

Most Bike Friday models will handle riders up to 200+ lbs (max depends on model). And most of them can be upgraded to support riders up to 260 lbs. See https://community.bikefriday.com/faq?...1703&x=18&y=13

A Bike Friday with the heavy rider option is probably the way to go.
Anyone know what the limit is for a Brompton? I thought that the weight limit only applied to the rider under the assumption that someone carrying a lot of books would put it in a front carrier bag.

Some US models:
Montague Paratrooper: 230 pounds
Most Dahons: 230 pounds
Downtube NS, 9, 8H: 225 pounds
Downtube FS: 245 pounds
Small/Medium Bike Friday Tikit: 190 pounds
Large Bike Friday Tikit: 230 pounds
Bike Friday heavy rider option: 260 pounds
Xootr Swift: 260 pounds
Mezzo: 242 pounds
I'm guessing these numbers are probably overly conservative.

Brompton can handle rider weight of 240 lbs... with additional cargo weight of 40 lbs. At least that's what I remember from a thread here a few months ago.

The Drive Side is Within
I weigh 185, was 190 when I started commuting on my folder. Six foot four. Heavy Messenger bag, about 20-30 pounds sometimes, when I have a lot of papers to grade. 10+ miles/day commuting. My Dahon Curve did fine, but was cramped. I'm doing fine on my 26" Dahon Espresso, one wheel could use a little truing, but the bike is holding up in all weathers and all road conditions.

Bikes: "Hildy", a Novara Randonee touring bike; a 16-speed Bike Friday Tikit; and a Specialized Stumpjumper frame-based built-up MTB, now serving as the kid-carrier, grocery-getter.

Yep, that's pretty much it. According to the Brommie website, the rated capacities are 242 lbs rider + 42 lbs cargo.

I wold recommend you try various bikes, speaking as a heavy guy, because some which work for me don't work for others, and vice versa. You gotta look for the flex in a bike when you are heavy, and also seat post slippage. But on this forum it seems to me there are no hard and fast rules, different strokes for different folks etc.
