Folding fitness
Greetings, folderisti.
I've been off the forum for a while, knee problems ('Doc - my knee hurts when I cycle' - Doc: don't cycle') - but figured I'd rather work through the pain than be housebound. I'm at the stage now where I can exercise, so bought a new Dahon Vitesse D7 and a set of rollers. It works well for me. I did a few miles to the coast and back the other week, so hope to be out this summer.
The Vitesse is my third Dahon, alloy frame - seven gears, and it's great. I like the Dahon frame and the ride quality. I had a Downtube which my ex stole (boo-hoo) and the only thing I miss on the Vitesse is the ArcLight rack . So if you have a spare , do yell.
best wishes to all

Welcome back, Snafu! Happy that you're recovering.
Wow, riding rollers on 20" wheels. Looks difficult! Was it hard to get used to?

Yo Ses!
Er no. I have been riding rollers since about 2007. It depends on the bike. The low cross bar on the Vitesse and Speed D7 is perfect, because it allows one to dismount quickly, mostly without major injury, when inevitably the force of gravity overcomes the ability of one to resist it. My Hammerhead was no good on rollers - too high, so I eventually went back to a low bar type frame. And, I like low bars.
The rollers lift the rider and the bike up by nearly six inches, so either you ride with blocks nearby to mount and dismount - or use a low bar frame. These are TACX Antares rollers - they are parabolic - the rollers dish in the middle. My previous set were not - these are better. They've helped me pick up after Mysterious Knee Problem. The D7 is pretty good on the rollers, much more interesting than a mag-trainer. You just need to keep a wall nearby during the first few sessions until your balance kicks in. Smooth tyres help, these are Shcw. Marathons.
