I've been testing 2 electric bike kits from Power in Motion on a couple Bike Friday Tikit folding bikes for the past month. I've owned a Tikit for over 2 years, but this is my first e-bike experience. Here is my review of one of the kits.



I'm a e-bike newbie so if I got anything wrong or if you think I should explain something better about the e-bike kits please feel free to comment. I cross posted this to the electric bike forum as I figured both audiences were different and would benefit.

I know the 16" 206 high speed motor in the 70mm dropout spacing is unique to Power in Motion because the owner had 4 specially built. I'm not sure if the standard version of 16" x 70mm dropout motor [209 motor] is the same as has been used on the Brompton in the past. The batteries and speed controllers may be different as well.

Do you have any links to the Brompton e-bike kit? I'd be curious to read up on it and see what reviewers were saying?

Fyi form my experience a important factor is if the motor is geared or not.

Geared means it is free to rotate (little resistance) gearless means there is "cogging " effect as the hub and motor are connected thus resistance.

this hub motor is gearless and there will be more resistance than what most like, when the motor is not in use.

That makes sense...I guess given the range you can get with modern batteries and how fast you can swap the Tiikit from e-assist to standard Tikit...I don't know why I would ever pedal without any e-assist?? If I wanted to enjoy a human powered ride I'd just swap the front wheel back to stock and remove the battery....that takes a couple minutes only.

I see they built the wheel with the valve between converging spokes. Common error for the inexperienced. Must be very hard to get a pump head on.

I didn't add air to the tires while the bike was in my care, but given the fact there was air in there it must work even if not ideal.
