Folder sizing

I'm looking for folding bikes for my wife and me. I'm wondering about sizing. I've noticed on the Dahon site that there are min/max for seat height and seat to handle bar reach. These vary by model. So how do you go about sizing a frame? I have a road bike and have done the knee over pedal method and had a professional fit but folding bikes are thowing me off. Do the same parameters work for folders? Also how do I find out about the geometry of a folder?

I'm looking at folders because we've lost the car we used to carry the bikes on and I don't feel like installing a hitch on to both of our other cars and trunk racks won't fit. How's that for rationalizing a new bike purchase?

Thanks
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

As you have noticed, many folding bike builders only have one size frame. If you would like to have more fitting options, I would take a look at Bike Friday. They have standard small, medium, and large frames. BTW, dahon's full size folders also come in difference sizes, if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks for the reply. I guess part of my question is what's the frame geometry on folders and how does it compare to a non folder? Are the Bikes like Citizen and Downtube set up with a mre relaxed geometry while the prefomance folders have a more agressive geometry?

I'm looking for a bike to do railtrails MUPs and take to the beach.

You really need to try out folders, as the riding position ,handling, and fit varies more than regular bikes. I really advise that you try before you buy. Lager 26 inch bikes are more comparable .
