Oh i wished you hadnt posted that. Its been so peaceful for awhile.
Now its going to get all the Brompton not likers posting about terrible Brommies.
Then my fragile ego is going to get bruised.
Then they are going to say worse things about us bromptonaughts and our 2 wheeled steeds.
Then im going to have to defend my purchase for my battered ego's sake.
Then the flame war is on.
Then my blood pressure is going to go through the roof.
Then well its not a very pretty thing to see.
Oh well theres no winning this never ending battle.( he says as he sigh's.)
But wait nobody is responding, maybe we won after all

Hey, I just post these links for others to enjoy or not at their whims. I do believe in free choice (or clicking in this case). Don't shoot-or blame-the messenger. (Heh, Heh)

For some reason Bromptons seem to get noticed and written up far more than other makes. Hence the sheer larger number of articles about them (mostly from the UK).

Yes, they're seen here as status symbols, terribly British doncha know, and cute. Their shortcomings (and they apparently have some) are ignored in favour of the remarkable evolved fold. Espoused by TV eccentrics including Top Gear's James May, the Brompton in many ways is a cultural icon of Britishness: small, meanly equipped, a funny shape, often green, and a hard ride. And, one of the few financial success stories we currently have.

(I haven't ridden one)

God save the Queen

Forgive me, my dear. I saw the sig icon of a Mezzo or a Frike Bridey, (?) and figured you were one of the Sopranos, already. My peepers are not what they were when once I had the eyes of an eagle, and the feet of an athlete.

Will Self, one of our more esteemed essayists is often seen whizzing around London on a Brommie, as are other celebs. He writes for the same newspaper as I, and occasionally we sneer at each other in the corridors of shame.

Funny that a company like Raleigh, who's most successful model was a quirky little bike that folded up, passed on the opportunity to attain the rights for the Brompton which is a great folding bike and the standard by which all others seem to be judged.

But I still like my quirky little folder from Nottingham although I did flirt with a Brompton yesterday afternoon... but it was just that.

If I needed a bike to travel with I'd look at a Brompton but if I needed a bike to ride a lot I'd take my Phillip's 20 which is nothing like the bike that rolled out of Nottingham back in '73.

Really ?
Are you writing for the London Tourist Board now ?

Can't be true, because we have both seen another celeb newspaper writer riding a Birdie, albeit, slowly, no whizzing involved.

I remember. Whodat?

And who was that other Brompton riding 'celibrite; we spotted in The Mall, in 2008? Terry Pratchet? Mel Smith? Gordon Bennet? No matter. The art of the paid hack is wearisome, and the fact that many of them/us now preach the gospel of Bromptons, when ten years ago they/we all had company BMW's, peculiar. I remain, sir, independent.

Are you bringing us a Lombardo folding bike from Milan, to road-test agin' the growing tide of Brommies on the streets of London?

Oh no: Tesco are selling them now.

I found this quote in the article fascinating:

“There are 15 springs on the bike, and seven of those are our own design.”

Never would have thunk it....

It was the one time Evening standard TV critic, the one with the double barrel name and dreadlocks; not in the Mall, but on the road in from Hyde Park corner.

In italy, only girls and old men ride bikes with wheels under 700c, I doubt anyone would stock the Lombardo, and i doubt it is actually made in italy, the only italian frame builders left are the very very expensive ones, the dreaded carbon fibre has done for them all.

No, I don't never ridden a Brompton. Everytime I borrow a bike, I get carried away with wracking pleasure, and ride it into the kerb. (trans: sidewalk (USA)) I am a danger to myself. Or, Will Self. Or, your self.

I'm just shoving a viddy in the Viddy thread of the 'All Parliamentary Bicycles Against Everything We Don't Like Cars or Anything Big or Hot' Group filmed in London two days ago, which contains endless shots of these Brompton contraptions, as well as two many pictures of Victoria Pendleton's chest. It also shows the 'manor' of the esteemed Hyde Park Folding Bicycle Society, for which I have just engineered a shameless plug, and of which, you Sir, I believe, are also a Member. As you know, we even accept Brompton riders.
