In Beijing I was able to rent a bike for ~$3/month. The rental operation was apparently an operation set up in the context of the Olympics. I ran across a second-hand store that, among others, had second-hand bikes for ~$35 a piece. Department-store no-name folders were for ~$70. I brought back a Dahon HT060, which is a 6(?)-speed version of Boardwalk, as far as I can tell. Many component/accessory prices were half of those in the US. Other were nearly the same. Bike Friday was ~20% more expensive than in the US. There was a Moulton there too. I came further across a number of high-end folder brands that I never heard of, that were either Chinese or Asian, and very innovative. This was in a street nearly exclusively dedicated to bicycles, with numerous factory shops, some of garage size.
