Alex Moulton APB & Newer TSR models

I know the TSR replaced the APB, but has anyone ridden both and how different are they from each other in terms of ride?

Hi, I have ridden both. I own an APB.

The TSR is lighter, and much lighter than the older APBs. The TSR has a unified rear triangle, so suspension bobbing while pedalling hard is reduced. The ride is much better than an APB, and many TSR owners say that the TSR is at least comparable to the much more expensive Moultons.

There are quite a number of frame changes. Some are cosmetic, but others allow for triple chainring (very difficult to achieve on an APB), and caliper brakes on some models (TSR 30 and pre-2010 TSR 8). Most TSR models feature a threadless headset.

The rear rack is very different. There is no platform rack available. The large rear bag is a great design, but is not compatible with any other moulon rear rack. The front pannier rack and rear rack are improved designs which ensure the TSR handles better with a touring load. It is possible to fit the new TSR front pannier rack to an APB.

A great pity the APB stainless fork dropouts were replaced with steel in the TSR.

Patrido,

Thanks for that information, makes me want to have a look at the newer TSR models. Maybe I need to sneak off next Saturday when I am in SF on vacation with family to the Moulton & small Folding bike get together in the park being organized...

Yes, do join us! Plenty of things for the rest of the family to do at GG Park while you're lusting over the bikes. PM me if you need ideas.

SC,

Thanks for the invite, I am going to try to but we only have 3 days in SF so everything will be condensed. We will be having brunch with friends that live 7-8 blocks from the museum which may make this possible...
