Puma Folder
 

I was looking at this Puma Pico Folder. http://us.puma-bikes.com/bikes/pico.html/ I like the integrated basket/ handle bar. However, the site does not offer a carrying bag. Does anyone have any experience with these? I would want to have it covered when I take public transportation. Thanks!

I don't know the bikes, but the website is very dishonest. You can't buy that bike for the price listed. Gears are "extra" and so is folding. The cheapest (only) no-folding configuration in €705, and the cheapest folding is €740. So why does it say €595?

Thanks for the response. I was aware that the base bike was not a folder. I first read about the bike somewhere else and that was mentioned. Here, Cleveland Ohio, there is little if any demand for a 20 inch tired, non-folding bikes with the exception of BMX bikes or children's bikes. Have yet to see an actual Cannondale Hooligan on the street. Though, I guess there is some demand in foreign markets.

Hi Joseph G. Jefmcg is right, even the non-folding option with 8 speed added is outrageous. You have to add an optional upgrade just to get 8 speed non-folding and Despite this, it advertises the bike as an 8 speed folder in the specs and description for €595. More unprofessional and clumsy than dishonest but not to be trusted as a result.

There are so many great 20" bikes we can help you narrow down, especially on that budget which have front baskets or excellent bags you can fit on to a bracket when needed. Don't write off the merits of a 20" bike that folds either!

Example below. It is basic but it has gears and integrated basket at a fraction of the price. Perhaps the Puma frame is better but nothing radical enough to warrant the price difference on local rides. Then loads of folders including Dahon 20" bikes can have a bracket put on the front and you can clip on a whole range of baskets and specialised bags!

Here is a closeout bike with a very high spec. Local shopping or touring. Thor (Nickname: Brakemeister) who is a regular on these forums could easily add a front bracket on the handlebar stem and a nice basket for a few $'s extra. And it folds away into the house or car for easy storage. This bike is a steal:

That's really a nice capacious front basket, but I wonder how it would feel to ride the bike with a load in there.

I went on a ride with Matthew Modine a couple of years ago and he was on a folding orange Puma (the Disko version). Since then, I've thought about it strictly as an expensive designer bike designed for celebrities to jaunt around SoHo, Chelsea, and Greenwich Village. Perhaps I'm being a little unjust in my assessment but my suspicion is that there are lots of folders out there that are less expensive, better engineered, and nicer to ride (a Xootr Swift, for example).

They sell them in the shoe/sports apparel stores?

Like you I went for a good hub upgrade as I love IGH with a single gripshift. Your custom Swift looks a great bike. I might bikejack it when I visit NYC next lol!

Hey mulleady, perhaps you're confusing me with another Swift rider? I have the stock 8-speed cassette on it, not an IGH. And, yes, please come visit and we'll go on a ride!

Thanks again for the responses and for the recommendations. @mulleady, the Raleigh Shopper is not sold here. Though, I do like the basket on the front. What I liked about the Puma integrated handle bar basket was that it is one piece. Do not have to carry a basket around or worry it will be taken off the bike.Though, it does seem over-priced and was wondering if or how a slip cover would go over it.
