My apologies that it's taken four years to respond to this. Don't know how I missed it in the first place.

The rims were Araya and I got them off eBay. Possibly from the States - there was a time a few years back where it was often quite cheap to buy there. Not any more though. I got into the habit a few years ago of pretty much buying any alloy 451 rims I saw. These wheels were built for me by a chap named Arup Sen. The seat was original but the grips I also picked up on eBay somewhere. This particular bike is really very fast for a Twenty and the hub 7 speed works really well. Only issue is it is quite heavy and hard to lift the back wheel if hopping up a curb - I've had more punctures from that than from anything else I think with this bike.

Other than that I love these bikes - like riding a very fast BMX around. Much more fun than a road bike and I love the stand and the mudguards - both items just do their job.

I actually scored some skinny Araya rims in silver a couple of years back - rebuilding my Twenty on 451s with Primo champs has been a slow but ongoing project. Have done some brazing for cable routing and moving rear brakes, as well as sourcing a nice chrome fork. Living arrangements make for slow progress but hope to get more done this autumn.

I remember one of thoese cotterpins shearing on a r20 folder when I was 14. My ankles never been the same since. Not used cotterpin cranks since then. I used to do bmx tricks my rsw so maybe I was too harsh on the little r20 also?

Hello Oldie Foldies,

I bought my first folder last year - a crappy used 16" Aleoca. I rode it for a year then it gave up the ghost. After that I went out and got a secondhand 20" Harris (1st photo) for about the same money as the Aleoca (USD60).



I have heard of Dahon. I'd love a well-used Dahon. They are full of characters.

Is the owner of this winner of the "Most Unloved Dahon Mariner" award?! The semi-open cage sitting over the rear wheel carries dead bears. Grisly.




Someone asking USD130 on Gumtree for this guy. It's the kind Dahon Ken would buy.

It'd be mine, though, not Ken or Barbie, if the keeper would let me have it for under a hundred bucks US. Fingers crossed.

my currency if convert is bout us500. java fit design in italy but made in china. wheel size is 20". stock came with cst tyre but i change it to schwalbe durano.

Not exactly "my" folding bike but I grabbed a Citizen Tokyo for my girlfriend, she even told me it's okay if she's the test subject. I've been lurking these forums for the past few weekends educating myself (as I will continue to do) on the brands and reading from the experiences of others. We really wanted to take advantage of all these Bike Trails we have along the American River here in Sacramento. We are a little cramped for space and probably will be biking at a more casual level for now, so folding bikes were the way to go (It be fun pull the bikes from the trunk and have spur of the moment bike rides).


From what I read Citizen Bikes were "good enough" in quality (with low gearing and poor resale value). When first hopping on I noticed the bike did have very low gearing. This something I thought I wouldn't notice having never owned a bike with gears in addition to not riding a bike in dozen years (about middle school age). I thought, "only "these are bike hobbyist they'll notice sudden intricacies". Nope, seems like leaving the bike in second or third seems counters that looseness.


As for myself I was planning on picking up a Miami but after experiencing the Tokyo (which I think is still fine, I just want something I can push a little harder) I've decided to expand my budget and have been looking for a Dahon or possibly a Tern. Even might get one from ThorUSA (Brakemaster is the same person here right?)


I will post it when I get my first folder.

Yeah, 26 inch wheels. I completely removed both deralliers and yes, built the wheel myself....after a lot of learning experiences. It has a coaster brake, I removed the rear handbrake and kept the front handbrake. Not sure of the gear inches. Bought a half link chain for it, and after switching out the 18T cog for a 16T, it fits perfectly. I need to get a pic posted of it.
