Why not ride a bike after a TKR?
It's one of the best therapy/rehabilition for knees, once you have enough range of movement

Hi guys, I'm on my 2nd folder restoration. Once I fixed up an old 1960 Italian model for my own commute, my daughter and son teenagers loved the retro look, so now I'm fixing up (believe it or not) an old Orbea model for my daughter. My son's classic HYDA is hanging in the garage. But the forth remodel is a Duemila, 1964. Considering having this one professionally restored.

It's complete except for the two pieces of the front fender. If anyone has any parts or knows someone who does, please feel free to write. I appreciate it.

Done simular with 4 folders now. I like dualdrive linked to brifters.
how well do the bars fold. alwaya found that drop spoils the fold. so I cut them back and turn upside down. like a bullbar but with vertical brake levers.
can you post a photo of it folded please?

Hello,

I've retired my Citizen Tokyo,



and just bought a Brompton ML3 in Cobalt, BSR 13T x 50T.



I've added TRP levers, Crank Bros. Candy pedals, Soma Brevet Handlebar, S&A barend shifter, Brooks Swallow saddle and bar tape, and Primo Comets.
I'm looking forward to tinkering with it more in the future.

I have a few questions.
I understand that a 15T is the biggest cog I can fit. The only option I could find is, 15T R sprkt 3/32in, 3-spline 2mm: SRAM 6-spd, will this work?
Any other options for cogs?
If not, I may just go to a 44T chainring.
If I wanted to go to a six speed by adding two cogs in the back, would I need to switch to a 2/6 speed tensioner and do another bar end shifter?

There is a conversion kit for the 2 speed option. Can you post a picture folded. Have you a quick release fitted to get the bars to fold more compact?

I am trying to replace my single speed crankset, very rusted, Question, if a supplier is telling me it's ok to use their a 3/32 crankset with my 1/8 chain would that be ok ? It's hard to find a 48 T Crankset for a 1/8 chain for my vintage folding bike Mifa. Thanks

Re brompton with drops reply 44cm bars.

I considered the wide bar drop bar upgrade, but I dont like really wide drops. Felt like the bikes compact fold was dictating to me!!
I went for a dahon androes stem extender instead. See the thread "brompton with dahon etc ...
Bromptons are loads better with these sort of mods imo.
They should produce standard bikes like these with versa brifters matched to afline11 like the fudge conversions.
What shifter are you using?
What did you use on citizen?

I cut most of the drops off these bars.
They were a design that had flared drops, so the hoods are 40mm wide.
I don't find them to feel too wide and they fold well.
I am still considering using an Aber Halo stem, but not ready to make the jump yet.
I'm still getting use to this set-up and want to give it a bit more time.
Seeing that it is a M stem it is a very low aggressive position.
It suits me okay, but I am finding that my knees are hitting the bars when climbing out of the saddle.
The extra 1 or 2 inches may help, but also may further complicate the fold.
I'm also considering flipping the bars over and having the bar end on the top like bull horn bars.
Currently when shifting I'm having to remove my hand from the bar when shifting which can be a bit unstable at times.
I'm using a SA 3 speed bar end on the Brompton.
On the Tokyo I was using a Dura Ace 8 speed bar end in friction mode, 58T with 13-32 7 speed freewheel.

Update to original post...

Original bar position.




I reconfigured the handlebars to enable me to shift without removing my hands from the bars.
New bar positions.



This position is more aero and has the bars flat similar to bullhorn bars.
Relevate Viscacha seat bag expands from 6-14 Liters.



This position has the bars upright to where I can ride with my hands on the hoods.
It seems that it would also allow me to fit the large carrier frame and bag on the front.

That is the latest update...

Haven't bicycled for about 30 years, got the bug recently and bought a Retrospec Spec single speed coaster brake folder with 20“ wheels and am having a blast. Been all over 4 of the 5 NYC boroughs and am now patiently waiting in Santo Domingo for the bike to arrive by shipping.

Hi all, newbie here to the forum and to folding bikes (but not to cycling).


Kinda jazzed about getting a foldie, so thought I'd post it here.

Dahon Jetstream (don't know what year) with P8 parts, some upgrades. Really enjoying it so far.

No plans to ride it on serious MTB trails, I have other bikes for that, but I like that it's got a beefy frame and nice suspension.

Getting used to the slight squirreliness of the front that a smaller bike like this has, but no problem. I'll get used to it.

Don't mind that the fold is not super-small, although maybe some day I'll acquire a bike with smaller fold for commuting and travel, maybe.

This bike rides great. I was expecting a little flex and more of a small bike feel and I'm very pleasantly surpised at how this bike rides. It will live in my car and maybe come along on some trips depending...

Not technically a folder as it separates into two halves and the bars fold down. I do love having full sized wheels.

I have a 77 Raleigh Folder, coffee colour. Am looking for a front rack and additions so far have been a nice Brooks B67 aged plus some German grips, forgot the brand sorry. They have a nice flange to cushion the hand. Looks like I need to send a pic! Really have enjoyed Fanny the Folder so far! Oh got some different pedals as one of the original platforms was bent. I like the new ones since they have grips on them.

I believe this Dahon to be a Mariner Classic. Her name is Elsie. She is in the shop getting a Nexus 8 speed hub to replace the 6 speed cassette.
