If I were in Guangzhou/Canton and could buy..

A copy of a folding bike like a R-20, where would I get one? Suggestions as to versions that are better than others.

Also, where are there excellent tailors to get custom shirts and suits/pants?

Just wondering as I may be there in November

Why would you want a copy of a R20? It defeats the whole purpose of having one which is to restore or upgrade an original.

The idea of "Why??" is not for debate. I just want a Chinese copy - to try out and use. I will hopefully get an Arvon/65er copy too - is there any reason why I cannot do that as well? Not only Americans have "freedom" ;-)

Besides, is the purpose of having one simply to "restore or upgrade an original"? Hummm, that is not a concept that I would personally accept. I have an original R-20 folder that was upgraded. It is a nice bike.

You may be able to get a Brompton copy, too. Made in Taiwan but some guy in China is reselling it.

It turns out they are no longer selling it. Only the 20-inch Dahon-like folders. They used to have the whole lineup at www.diybike.com.cn.

I was in China earlier this year. Check the Giant Bike Dealers, they have a few folders on hand that are nice.

"china domestic models" from Yeah, Dahon, some giants, some oyama - just the ones under 1500RMB are the real values and not possible to find elsewhere (eg 6 speed geared 16" folders or very small 14/16 single speeds). Anymore and you're spending too much for something with no warranty once outside.

when you are in china of course you would like to buy a dahon! i highly recommend you get the 2010 vitesse p18 sky blue colour which is not avaliable anywhere in the world ( i think) for less than 4000rmb, if you have time go to shenzhen theres a dahon retail centre in hua qiang bei! for giant bikes is good as well but i dont praticularly know which model is highly recommended, for people who lives in hong kong some who cant afford buy bikes directly from china, theres a price difference of 10-30%

I bought the Tallerway 8.0 RD when I was in China. It's a 8 speed folder. The dealer had a bunch single and multispeed bike in 16 and 20 inch models. I should have bought a single speed bike, they were dirt cheep and very nice.
