Hi. I'm about to order an M6R and need some sort of waterproof bag for my work commute. Ideally it will be fixed to the bike rather than to me and though I have been recommended the front-mounted C bag I have not seen one.It's crazily expensive (no surprise there!) but can anyone tell me if it's any good? Or if there are other options from other manufacturers that will fit? Any help gratefully received! PS I am UK based.

Hi. I've owned the Brommie front-mounted bag for many years now and am very happy with it. Yes it's expensive, but I doubt you're likely to find an alternative that fits so well with the bike. Note, however, it is not waterproof. If you're going to be riding in a lot of wet weather, you'll probably want to carry stuff in a plastic bag inside the bag. Hope this helps.

If the price is troubling, and I have no doubt it is expensive, you could think about fitting the Merc copy bag and mounting block to your B.

It works - I've used it. This is my bike on a camping trip - we're talking about the front bag obviously. It has a quick connect / disconnect fitting and it just lifts off if you press the fitting.



Anita Clare who imported and sold the Merc copies, has since stopped selling them, but she had a lot of spare parts including mounting blocks and bags. As I recall the block used to be about a fiver and the bag was maybe about twenty five pounds (that's my recollection anyway.)

Does the Brommie come drilled and tapped for the fitting of the block? There could be a disparity on the threads with the merc blocks because the frame is aluminium and may have courser threads - but I'm guessing. Everything I know of is dimensionally exactly the same as the mid 1990s bromies which they were a copy of, so I doubt you'd have a problem fitting their block and bag if you wanted to.

I am researching the use of the Klickfix system on my new Brompton. Specifically, whether one can mount a Klickfix adapter to the "two hole" block on the headtube of the Brompton. If the block has the same threading and spacing as the "two hole" block on headtubes of some Dahon folders, then we are in luck.

This is a much more attractive option than using the Brompton system as the options for bags and such for the Klickfix system are much wider.

Why not simply make your own or have someone make a bag with your requirements and attach it to this standard bare frame pictured below. It will fit your M handlebars. I like my own bags instead of the far more expensive premade stock ones.

Hi. Is that the standard frame as supplied by Brompton or a third party? Not sure if my diy could cope with making a bag though saw your instructions on your site - v. impressive. Thanks for this.

I do like to gather ideas to sew from many, many different sources. For the Brompton Front Luggage bags, I did like Jane's Henshaw's ideas-although the Website has since disappeared as is the habit of the ever changing Internet. I sent you some bag construction notes from a old information source of Bromptons via Private Mail. The Standard Bare Frame is sold through any good Brompton dealer-although they seem to prefer to sell you the bag attached to it. I bought mine recently here in the US so I am quite sure that they are sold in the UK. Just ask your own dealer. Good luck with your bag and many years of happy riding for you.

This is kind of an old thread, but as a new Brompton owner (times 2), it's all new info to me!

I'm looking to build my own front-mount roll top Brompton bag. I guess something like the T-bag to fit on my existing front Brompton frame/block.

I've seen mention of Jane's (Thomas?) bags and they seemed perfect, but the site is gone. I tried the Internet Archive, but too many of the images are missing to be useful. I'm hoping someone saved a copy of her instructions or maybe has some alternatives for DIY bags that you'd be willing to share?

It's worth a try, anyway.
