I saw that tikit w. Rohloff on ebay. Wish I jumped on it. 2,300$ was a deal, especially cosidering the low mileage!

Not sure about Alfine internals , not seen Update on Sheldon's Gears calculator
[since his passing away?] in years to add new products.

Edit: [seen now on the site, so I'm updated too ... ]

Sturmey's 8 speed is all overdrive ratios above first, the direct gear.
they were thinking of small wheels on that one..

so You wont need a huge chainring , with a small drive wheel

Rohloff makes a 13t cog for small wheel bikes.

#11 is direct 1-10 reduction,12-14 overdrive..

FWIW, I have a Brompton with a 54t chainring , 15t cog on wheel is a 58'' gear

And so it is...ordered. Alfine eleven tikit with hyperfold and folding rear rack. I'm between the white, orange and merlot colors.

The bike could come as early as January or as late as March. All dependent on when green gear gets the alfine eleven in stock.

Patience, patience, patience!

This is not correct, all the latest stuff is there. The web resource is being maintained.

I have the orange (for my Crusoe--see tiny avatar pic). It's a great color: not too bright and obnoxious at all, but definitely distinctive. I guess I'd say it's a slightly muted safety orange. Grease becomes a nice war paint on it :)

Congratulations on the decision and good luck with the wait!

I'm interested to know: what chainring size did you decide on and/or did Bike Friday specify?

Riseabovebb 11-25-10 06:16 PM

It comes standard with a 53/16 combination. I think that will suit me just fine. I'm already excited
! Leaning towards the merlot II color. It will have a black rack and black brooks saddle so i'm trying to picture the color combo. Black ortliebs also.

Do folks tote the trailer behind their tikit? I've asked that the trailer hitch be added, but I don't know if it comes standard anyway.

fietsbob 11-25-10 06:32 PM

Carry Freedom City Trailer folds Flat ,Itself,I got one,, , Axle nut secures hitch

Theirs uses a Air connector and a rubber hose ..

But if you want to plug and play the suitcase trailer , thats what you do. get their hitch

Used air tools with those , at the Shipyard.

I vote white. Congrats you'll love your little folding buddy...:thumb:

Thanks for passing along the chainring specification. If the gearing information I've seen is correct, the Alfine 8 and 11 have the same low ratio (0.527) and the additional range of the 11 is at the top (2.153 versus 1.615). 53/16 is the chainring/sprocket specification Bike Friday uses with the Alfine 8 -- so keeping this for the Alfine 11 adds range at the top only.

Again, good luck coping with the wait.

Edit: no intention of implying that 53/16 is not a fine choice with the Alfine 11 -- just worth noting that the new range opens up new possibilities whereas (in my opinion) with the 8 you need to have a big and harder-to-find chainring to get to a reasonable high gear.

Can't hurt to ask. You might ask for a front derailer mount too.

Riseabovebb 11-25-10 10:23 PM

Good point. Standard derailer mount is probably a very good idea. You never know what the future brings.

Seasons Tikit Dropouts are swappable and offer a derailleur hanger, to increase versatility.
