Thursday a new Bike Shop in the area had an Open House to welcome the community to their shop. I had previously made arrangements to have my R20 there for the folks to look at while they enjoyed refreshments and perused the new bikes and shop. It was a wonderful event including some excellent appetizers and beverages. There was a photographer from a local magazine present taking pictures of the festivities. While talking to the gal taking the pictures, unmistakably English, I asked if she’d like to see my Vintage Raleigh bike. She said she’d be delighted so I brought her over to see the R20. That’s when the magic happened. As I pulled the bike out for her to get a good look I saw the expression on her face instantly change from Photographer on Assignment to a warm awe as she just stared for several moments and then said “I had one of those when I was a little girl and my brother had one too”. I could see wonderful memories flashing in her mind. She said she remembered seeing her bike under the Christmas tree, the pink one and her brothers blue one and all the rides they used to take. I’ve got to tell you, seeing her reaction was the icing on the cake that made the whole restoration even better for me. Here’s a picture she took of me with the Twenty. I told her about the Forum and she gave me permission to post it.
