The fork appears to fold with a quick release somewhere. Hopefully it is secure.

I have no doubt we'll see that kind of regenerative boost in the future.

Unfortunately the bike appears to be single speed. Perhaps the boost mode helps with the intermittent power needs that one might otherwise get with a geared bike.

I love the fold that it does around the bottom bracket that is similar to the Helix. Neither frame "triangle" has an hinge on it. Both bikes have larger wheels than folding bikes tend to have, yet still have very compact folds. Well done.

I'd imagine that the established folding bike companies are looking at these designs.

If it folds around the BB, why use a chain tensioner?

Is this the same/similar technology Brompton is going to use for their e-bike in 2017?

If it is regenerative it will be be very hard to pedal with out a motor and that feature does not get you much in the way of additional power.

I'm excited to see the weight coming down on e-bikes. Motor or not, a 40+ pound bike is just too heavy. They "say" it doesn't have drag when you pedal without the motor - I'll be interested in some real world feedback on that. I do like the way it folds and rolls, though.

I had a throttle model e-bike for a while, at 250 watts, and it was plenty for basic around town stuff. The bike was very heavy and it still got me up some decent inclines (with my pedaling in a high gear) and had enough boost to get out in front of traffic, etc. A properly designed 250 watt motor would work on a single speed for city use.

Self charging is music in my ears. I think this is the wheel (hub) I saw in Copenhagen some time back (in the shop edelay did not visit ).

https://www.flickr.com/photos/778361...posted-public/

There was some discussion about it then in the forums and I had a look at several youtube films. There are several different manufakturers and one thing I like is the hub can only unlock with the right (your) phone as a "key".

The "Copenhagen wheel" has beeb developed for years but we are still waiting for it to be in the shops.

I am sure you can buy the hub only and use in a bike you own.

The chain tensioner could be part of a gear option (like a two speed Brompton).

This kind of wheels is part of the reason why I converted my trike to a "two IGH hubs drivetrain". With a regular hub in the front and this in the rear wheel I do not have to mess with charging and wires, it is all in the hub... I think..

If i was sure I would have bought one already. Maybe it is time for at trip to Copenhagen or Germany to test ride hubs

Edit:

Looks like I e-mailed the shop asking about the hub and got this answer from the 1905 shop:

No it´s not the Copenhagen Wheel. The wheel is called Zeus and the bike brand Klaxon.

Med venlig hilsen/Kind regards

Andreas Otto
Butikschef/Shop manager

---

This is all I could find in a hurry. Looks like the copenhagen wheel now has a casette option. Could be the same with the Zeus. They compete with eachother I guess..

Regenerate on downhills and stops? Perhaps it would help in an urban setting where one can lose a lot of momentum with frequent stops.

Say a rider cruises at 100W. One could regenerate at say 25W. That would still be tough riding. But, then after 10 minutes of flat land riding, one could push up the hills at 125W for 2 minutes (with an ideal motor/storage/generator). What would the losses be? 50%.

I bet the release version will have provisions for charging and an extended battery pack.

Here's an earlier review of the motor they are using:

Zehus Bike+ All-In-One Electric Bike System. No Charging Required?! [VIDEOS] | Electric Bike Report | Electric Bike, Ebikes, Electric Bicycles, E Bike, Reviews

And it says: "When you’re using the traditional electric assist options the Zehus system simply re-charges from a traditional charger."

Zehus is Flykly, but with advanced features. Good stuff.

As for the Copenhagen wheel, they took people's money and never came through. And they still email me, asking for my money.

Maybe add a 2x or 3x internal gear crankset?
