AS Bikes

I have been looking for a folding bike for some months now. I want it to have decent suspension and be cheap enough not to encourage theft. I have been considering a Dahon. I have also considered a second hand Di Blassi but the seller wants too much for it. I have just found out about the folding bikes by www.asbikes.co.uk . Their big disadvantage seems to be weight, but they seem to me to have many worthwhile features. I am considering their Explorer plus! Although heavy it seems most folding bikes are too heavy to lift for any distance ever if they are much lighter.

I wish to use it for local shopping and then to fold away at home.

Has anyone experience or knowledge of their bikes?

Robin

Seriously I would encourage you to check the Dahon line of folders .In my opinion they are the best value in folders others may cost less but are not nearly as well made and thought out.You can pay less , but remember if something seems too good to be true it usually is.Go for the best value not the cheapest price i have bought cheap folders and been dissatisfied so I improved them . For the money i spent I could have bought a much better bike to begin with and not have had to do as much wrenching.A cheap badly engineered folder is no bargain if you ever want to improve it ,it will be costly and not nearly as productive as modifications to a better bike. I have done it and I regret it and as bikes remind me of a very sour lemon of a bike called a Z bike which was the first brand new folder I purchased.

A.S.Bikes here interested in your letters,
We would happily accept the critism of our bikes being a little heavier than other makes. This is due to the use of oval tube rather than round. This also makes our bikes less whippy when together. Also you cannot have front and rear suspension without gaining weight. We aim our bikes at the leisure market,Canal,Motorhome and Caravan
owners are our core business.Up to now all the folders have carried a large price tag which is why we have got involved. Why can you buy a reasonable cheap standard bike for sub £100 and as soon as it gets a couple of hinges on it the price multiplies by 3 to six times ? We offer a money back policy so if you do not like the bike you can just send it back.We do not pay for the return carriage so it costs us both one carriage charge which we think is fair.We prefer the customer to ring us where possible and we will give good truthfull advice on the choice of purchase. If you are worried about our bikes check out our E Bay feedback ! Also we attend many shows around the country for you to see the bikes in the flesh. We will be at Earls Court,London soon (2nd-7th Nov) for the Outdoor Leisure and Caravan show.
We may not be the best or most expensive bike on the market but offer what we think is a very reasonable quality folder with a good spec at a good price with a money back
guarantee. We also have an extensive range of spares to offer a good after sales service.

I bought a badly engineered folder once. I do not wish anyone else to do the same. If your bicycle is well made fantastic the more choices in folders the better.
