Mini Velos using BMX racing frames.

I know there are some frames out there that can be built up into a mini velo and wanted to start a thread on ideas and data base of frames that will work. Like the Skyline formula one in this thread http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...?highlight=bmx

I like your idea, but think there needs to be some clarification. The frame in the link (Skyline) is a formula one frame, which is essentially a mini velo under a different name. So my question is this - are you looking for formula one frames, or traditional bmx frames to be built up (and possibly modified) for mini velo use?

I am open to any BMX frame that has the potential to look like a mini velo.

An BMX F1 Formula One bike like the Schwinn Qualifier, Haro Dart and Mongoose can be built up into a mini velo. The frames are cheap enough to convert to a mini velo. The main drawback is the aggro frame geometry. A traditional BMX doesn't lend itself well to mini velo use.

I have Schwinn Qualifier set up as a mini velo but that was before mini velos came to our shores. Personally, I would now recommend you buy a Big Shot Mini Polo mini velo. Your choices are basically whether to keep the stock 451 wheels, convert to 406 wheels and get better bars and brakes.

A mini velo is a essentially a folder bike that does not fold. Good luck on your project.

The bike you linked was mine. It has come a long way since those photos were taken. Got new dual pivot brakes, changed the stem set-up and a new saddle. Here is how it looks now:

Looong (bendy) seatpost if using a BMX frame, NB BMX races are sprints .
so seated pedaling is not given a consideration..
