Help with sourcing an alternative 16" rim/rear wheel for a Mezzo

I'm after a 16" wheel for my Mezzo so that I can fit it with a Capreo hub. Anyone know of any suitable rims, 32 hole, which will fit? I think Matt52 didn't get on with the Sun CR18.

Possibly a BMX rim?

Thanks in advance.

A bit off topic, but I thought Bhyte got info from Mezzo UK that the 9 teeth ring on the Capreo would cause the chain to hit the frame?

Here is a place for a rim and they can build one up for you. http://www.gaerlan.com/bikeparts/par...l/wheel16.html

Cheers, but would ideally like to source it in the UK.

Thats what Mezzo said to me, but Matt(52?) said he has fitted one. I have never seen one, but there are not that many web sources for modded Mezzo's. I think Mat is not longer active.
Interested why you are going for the cepsro?
I found this option expensive, but it may have been the lightest option, and
most simple upgrade if it does fit. Mezzo should provide this hub as an option. Or just MAKE IT FIT, like good engineers do!
I used a sun cr 36 for a dual drive on mine. The dual drive gives me more top range than the cespro, but is loads more issues to fit, where as if the cespro goes on its just a swop over.

Else IHG is vey senisable opition.

ningnangnong is the one looking at the Capreo.

I actually have an i4 and am thinking about having a 36 hole wheel built up with a Sturmey Archey 8 speed (the new one with 325% gear range) and keeping on hand all 3 gear rings of 20, 23 & 25 on hand.

I would build one myself, but am not too sure where in the USA I can get 13 Ga. spokes cut to size and am wondering if I should just build them with 14 Ga. spokes especially if they are 36 spokes. The other problem is getting a 36 hole 16" 349 rim in the USA. Can't seem to find them.

Ratdog - will it definitely fit the Mezzo hub? That might solve my problem of an easy conversion and also give me the higher gears the Mezzo so desperately need.

The SA 8 speed comes with a 135mm rear spacing. I haven't done it yet, but everything I've read says it can be done. It'll also give a tremendous amount of flexibility as far as gear range. Check your gear range using the calculator on the Harris Cycles site.

Ratdog, Gaerlan has the rims and spokes needed http://www.gaerlan.com/bikeparts/par...l/wheel16.html

Are these worth using? http://aebike.com/page.cfm?action=de...=30&SKU=HU0107

Proving to be too expensive an upgrade so have decided to sell it. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Mezzo need to fix the under gearing issues, so that potential buyers dont need to.You may find if you put alot of effort in to getting a few more inches gearing what the fuss was about as one off my commutes barley users anything over standard gearing for more than 30 secounds. What are you going to get.

Cog not included, uses 17-22t HG-style 9-spline cogs, 3/32" only
With 16" wheel it Looks like it will be needing a monster like a 60t chainring
or a Speed drive planetary overdrive crank.. if a 17t is as small as will fit thehub

360% Ratio Range (0.5 Underdrive to 1.8 Overdrive)
is wider range than a 3 speed .75 - 1.33
but if you wanted super low gears anything around 32T or larger would work ..

Maximum front chain ring limit is 56 teeth, (from Mezzo again), due to chain catcher clearance issues. A 56 t compatable chain guard is also required. However, I wonder if with a little machining to the chain catcher whether upgrading the front just might be the easiest way to go?

Or what about an 8 speed nexus? http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...ion-help/page3

You could also go for a cheap 3X7 dual drive. I got a good lightly used one from Ebay for about 20. Its easier to fit than the 3X9 see the "dual drive on a mezzo" thread. you just need to route another cable, and a small DIY plate up for the front wheel holder
