Brompton S-type and larger front bags

The rule with the S-type is that only the S-bag fits as larger bags interfere with cables, or something like that. Is that an iron rule or is it possible to use larger bags? There looks to be enough room to me but perhaps brake lever clearance over the top of something like the folding basket would be an issue. . . in which case perhaps cables would snag? Or perhaps the S stem projects forward enough to touch the top of a larger front bag?
Anyone tried it?

Standard frame: 30cm high, 35 to bottom, from top of handle.

so what's the S height ?

Cheers alien, not sure how I missed that.

My Sister has just taken delivery of her third Brompton M-type, this time in the Hot Pink :twitchy: She ordered a Ortlieb "O" Bag (Hot Pink) and had it sent to my house...... I took the opportunity to try the bag on my S-Type...... The brake levers just caught the top of the bag, so I'd say it is not really suitable for use with the S-type.

The top of the bag rather than the handle of the frame? Oh, hang on, do Ortleib use the Brompton frame system or their own scaffoldy thing?

By the way, a female friend of mine is now sold on the Brompton idea. She loved the styling of the Curve D3 in 'fire red' but was impressed with the Brompton shopping cart functionality. Then she saw online exactly that combination of bike colour and bag, plus a pink helmet, and the Curve D3 had no chance whatsoever. I have to say I think some of the brighter Brompton colours look really nice particularly with black rear frame, stem and forks. All-pink looks OK whereas pink frame with black extremities looks very nice.

np. also you can change the brakes to ones that don't droop as much (trivial cost) - see the brompton mailing list at yahoo (yuk, I know) for all sorts of stuff tho.

//a

S2L-X with C Bag and taped cables. Will change the brakes shortly.

I have an S6l with an S bag but I also have a Carradice bag from about 12 years ago whic was made for an M model Brompton..and that fits fine on my S bike..Slightly taller than the S bag..no problem at all..
