hi Brommrades...

Its time for me to get rear LED light for my brommie. wondering if anyone who's got good experience with their lights and would recommend ? I live in a sunny all year round with seasonal rains climate. thanks for your help!

Dynamo or battery powered? Busch Muller are well reputed , a bit expensive outside europe tho

I Put a cat eye blinkie on my rear rack, No German blinkies, due to local regs.

Honestly, I've been really impressed with what Bell has been marketing at Walmart etc. for ten bucks -- this one. It's very bright and the circuitry is quite durable (I've been using them for about four years and they've survived many knocks and falls). Much better than your average cheapie and outperforms many LBS lights I've owned. My only complaint has been that the plastic clip on the back has broken -- but that's only an issue if you're going to clip it onto yourself or the bike, rather than using a bracket.

OTOH, if money's not a concern, people swear by the Dinotte. Haven't tried it, myself.

As per the Bompton forum I like this.








As I said it will fit without any mod to the bracket and leave 2-3mm off the floor when folded. The supplied plastic bracket fits perfectly and you can even use the existing self tappers from the stock reflector fitting. No interference with the frame fold. Ising the supplied plastic fitting the Reflex can then be removed quickly if need be. I wanted more clearance so modified the stock brompton metal bracket so it sits further back. You have to mill the bracket to make the hole bigger (shown in the second pic) so that you can fit it on the other side of the long nut/bolt fitting. You then also have to cut the top fitting hole off the plastic bracket but it is not needed anyway. The Cateye Reflex comes with an optional auto mode which switches on in low light "and" when the bike moves. If the bike is stationary it goes off after 50 seconds. I am pleased with it so far. Only time will tell with its reliabilty.



I tried another cheaper light but although I could get it to fit it ended up interfering with the fold (it wasn't wasted as I fitted it to my wifes ladies bike). Here is a picture which shows the two lights and the reflector to give you an idea of size.

oh sorry. i intend on getting battery powered LEDs.. have no rack. Isnt there one where u just clip it on and clip it off when you fold the bike?

You dont have to remove the light , it on the above bracket, lays below the line
from the top of the tire and the 2 roller wheels on the rear extremity.

though Jerry in #6 shows a quick clip removable light, the plastic piece
on the Brompton metal Bracket.

Word of caution if fitting LED lights under the saddle... make sure it is not obscured by your jacket, vest, raincoat.

yes i ended up buying this as an immediate measure, with an eye to upgrade later to the Dinote See pictures attached. My main concern with the rear mounted position on the brommie is its very low height, which renders it hard to see from a driver's line of sight, especially at close range when the car hood would obscure our rear end.
I have since seen a saddle mounted rear light. Now, why didnt anyone think of that??

I have seen a Brompton spokeswoman on video mention the reason that they placed the rear light on the frame/rack is to avoid a vest, raincoat, or long jacket obscuring the light. I also have a LED light mounted on my seatpost but lower than that in your pic.
