Another tire thread
I know, I know....
Did a bit of poking around, and most of the threads I found seemed a bit long in the tooth and Schwalbe has updated their tires. So - I've narrowed down the new tires for the Go to either the Marathon HS 348 in 20X1.50 @ 440g or the Marathon Plus HS 348 20X1.35 @580g. Bike will be on city streets and mostly paved bike trail, with perhaps a bit of dirt trail now and again. Not a fan of sitting and fixing flats, so that is a consideration. Besides the weight and cost, not sure I need a wire bead of the Plus. Does it mean the tire is harder to mount? Broke two Pedros tire irons on a Dahon/Kinetix rim and Schwalbe tire combo. Any feedback appreciated, and will also consider alternatives. Thanks |
Since the Gobike is full suspension, you can go narrow and light. Kojak, Primo Comet. For puncture protection, use a tyre liner but make sure to sand the cut ends down smooth or they will cause punctures. I would not consider the Plus - heavy, expensive, poor ride quality, and not absolutely puncture proof.
For removing/ installing tyres, it is absolutely crucial you get the beads into the centre well of the rim - that's what they are there for. |
348?

I was thinking about the Marathon HS 348 20x1.75 for my Dahon Eco 6. But everywhere I keep reading that the original fender gets in the way. I don't know what to do. I want better wheels than the stock.

Schwalbe Kojak. I can't seem to get these damn things to puncture!

After much poking around and dithering, went with a set of Marathon Racers. Found a good sale price, and they had them in stock. Figure I can stick some tuffys in there if they seem to flat easy.
They seemed a good compromise of weight, durability, and performance. For some reason, the standard Marathons were out of stock at most places. |
What kind of a sale price did you find?
