Vitesse P18 why was it discontinued?

Hello
I'm a long time lurker, first time poster. Because of all the great advice I got from this forum as well as the Dahon forum, I bought my first folder, a Dahon Boardwalk. I havent ridden a bike in over 15 years but after getting the Boardwalk, I am now riding almost every day. However, I now want to upgrade my bike to one with gears. I live in an area with a lot of hills and the Boardwalk just isn't cutting it.

I noticed that Thor has a Vitesse p18 for sale but I am wondering why it was discontinued. Should I consider other models such as the Mu or speed7 or 8?
I am looking to spend about $500-700 and would only use the bike for leisure purposes in an area with a ton of hills. I want a "forever" folder that handles hills well, is fairly versatile and can travel at a decent speed.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Dahon has various models in various worldwide markets. My understanding is that the distributors usually determine which models will be available in their respective markets. I'm guessing that the Vitesse P18 is still in production, but is not currently available in a U.S. version. As I recall, Thor is a big fan of the Vitesse P18.

yeah .. i have a couple left of those.... those are good bikes with great components, lightweight and agile...
for the money they are super cool ....
about discontinued models... what Hank said....
I think Dahon had too many differnet models in the past, whichmakes all kinds of logistics real difficult.

Thanks for the responses. Is a Vitesse p18 better than a speed p8 or mu p8?

different ..... obviouslyit has a double front crank, a front derailleur and extra shifter...
other than that it has an alloy vitesse frame ....
versus an alloy Mu frame
or a steel Speed frame ....

other than that all are pretty close ....

How many miles do you ride a day? Check out the Dahon site for those models and it gives you an idea what they are used for. https://us.dahon.com/bikes/1647/speed-p8. I just bought the Speed P8 for short distance riding since that is all I do. I would recommend the Vitessep18 for long distance and touring.

The P in P8 or P18 designates that premium components are being used for that Dahon model.

The obvious caveat response:
"It's perfect for that insufferably smug college student who goes on environmentally friendly benders (I assume this means drinking out of homemade bamboo cups), blacks out, and wakes up in the middle of a Costa Rican jungle."
