LBS Love for My Folder!

So I needed to tweak the headset on my Friday.

Swing by the closest bike shop (no folders) looking for 40mm wrenches. Guy says "sorry, no luck.... wow is that an inch and a quarter threaded Chris King headset??? I never saw one of those around here before.. Hey guys, come check this out!!!" and the four techs all huddle around my bike. But... no wrench, sorry, but we can order it for you. I say thanks but I hope I can find it today.

Get on phone, call next LBS, ask for 40mm wrench, guys says "yeah, just a sec.... oh crap, we are out, but if you want to order it bring in your bike and I'll do the work for you on the spot for free so you don't have to wait for shipping!" So I do, and he does, and he is totally into it even though again they don't even sell folders, because he (like the others) is a gadget fiend at heart and he ends up going over the whole bike because it's fun for him.

I them all back

It is nice when others appreciate a small wheel bike.

It's easy to hate the LBS. But the people who work at them: they are also us.

Yes, I am you.

If a folder comes into our shop, or an IGH bike, or anything that's not a straight up mtn/hybrid/road bike, the others will roll their eyes and log the repair to me. I don't mind; I love it.
