In fairness from that video it appears to be well thought out and with the collar folded down it would probably look OK (those pics aren't representative), perhaps good. However, I can't stand the posh leanings of the Brompton company, and when I hear the god-awful accents and double-barreled names of the new company heads, well, it's skin-crawl-inducing.

I got the whole sales pitch on this jacket from a Very Attractive young Brompton lass at the Interbike Show and while she did a fine job of pointing out all the features (also noted above) I really can't imagine wearing one on my weekday commutes.

I'll stick with my Sugoi jacket, thank you, though I was impressed by the Brompton Lass!

Match this with Outlier pants... maybe... I dunno. I do have Outlier pants but probably never will get this one... Now, the Outlier pants... the bomb. Typically I am on Cutter knicker or something unless I need to be more presentable off bike and don't feel like driving up to somewhere (which is most of time).
I would think just wearing packable bike shell on top of merino dressy shirt (Ibex OD L/S Shirt, Icebreaker Mens LS Outback) would do trick unless you really need full coat. (and that coat looks too dorky for boardroom meeting, etc)

I'm not understanding much of this post, sorry, but if you live in California why would you need a jacket anyway when you ride a bike, doesn't the sun always shine there ? It's different here is UK, often cold, often damp, more often wet, a good riding jacket is an asset. I have an italian one, it's got a reflective collar just like the Brompton jacket, not as exotic material but still quite superb at what it does, only cost me 140 euros, bit of a bargain I reckon, with hindsight.

I certainly can see the desire for a jacket with this kind of functionality / bikey features / while still looking like normal clothes. And if the waterproofness of the thing can stand up to repeated cleanings, I would even consider it at the price.

But the color... There really should be a few more color options at the price.

I recently purchased a custom tailored jacket that looks slightly similar (at a similar price) but it is black wool. I think something with a bit more formal tailoring would be better. The silicon coated cotton sounds good, but I owned a shirt with a similar technology (nanosphere) from Outlier. While liquids do bead up, if something stains the material, it's a bugger to clean. Also, when water can't come in, it usually doesn't go out as well.

I do like the idea though.

I would buy it but it has to be black. Cycling is dirty and after a tire change, it's more likely to get stained! Black looks more professional, and classly. I'll pass for now.
