Front rack on Raleigh Twenty?
 

Hi, folks: I'd like to put a front rack and zip-tie a Wald basket on the Twenty--any suggestions/how-tos? Thanks!

Do you have mudguard eyelets?

I have one on my Kingpin and although I had to bend the bracket to reach the fork crown I have been very impressed by such a cheap rack.

Fabrication ideas? you gonna weld something up, to support the basket?

a couple S shaped tubes or say 3/8 steel rod ,
one end on the dropout eyelet. or the hub axle.

the upper end of both pieces fitted to a spacer in the upper headset stack.
make a horizontal section of it , where It's over the wheel, to bolt the basket onto..

but as I read this site , it's just Shoppers, not makers,
[except the frame-builders, a pretty conventional lot ]

Do you want it attached to the forks, to turn with the wheel or attached to the frame?

Ideally something attaching at the axle and mounting from the bars or at the fork crown. Or P-clamped to the fork blades.

I see some nifty examples on the Twenty website but they all seem to be rare and made back in the day. I'd rather hack something but am not sure what's hackable.

I should just buckle down and learn how to weld/braze.

I wouldn't worry that its designed for a full sized bike, compare the hub to handlebar measurement of a Twenty and another bike and they will be similar.

Both of these are on practicalcycles.com they seem to specialise in dutch cycling stuff.

Correct; on mine the fender struts fit over the axle with washers.

The Wald setup seems like a pretty good solution all things considered.

I have the Basil rack and no way I would fit it on a folder. First of all it would no longer be a folder, maybe just a "fold in half" if you are lucky.

One of the big advantages of a 20" folder (apart from folding it) is the option to keep the load low. Next is the fact that you have a lot of space between the wheel and the handlebar (or the wheel and the seat in the back). If you mount a rack or a basket or any load as high up as you would on a "normal" bike you loose both.

Not all Twenties are Folders and tbh no-one would consider them to fold very small. Yes it would be nice to have the load closer to the front wheel but without V brake braze-ons or mudguard eyelets the options are limited. I myself have a similar issue with a Royal Enfield Revelation but I have the added problem that I want the rack to look good. I think I shall have to get replicas of the original racks made
