    Vector X10/X20 vs. Tern Verge X10,X20, X30h

    Will Dahon still be releasing the Vector X10 or X20 in the U.S? I was looking into the Tern Verge series bikes also. Can someone tell me why the Verge X20 is $1,000 more than the Verge X30h? I thought it would be the other way around. The Verge X10 looks good but not liking the white with orange design. Anyone test ride any of these bikes yet? It would be great to hear input from someone that has test ridden both Dahon Vector and Tern Verge series bikes. I currently have a Dahon Vitesse P18 I enjoy exercising with and riding around the park/beach/lake. Looking for perhaps a lighter bike with better gearing for faster speed for road riding with my friend. Most of the time I can keep up with him on my Vitesse but he definitely has an advantage with his really light weight road bike. Or maybe I should check with my LBS and get their opinion/estimate on upgrading the components and taking some weight off the Vitesse.

    If gram counting is of importance to you, then none of these folding bikes will make you happy. Hinges add weight, as does the tubing/joint thickness to compensate for increased leverage from the extended handlepost and seatpost. If you think that the bike is the limiting factor in keeping up with your buddy, then you should probably go for a typical road bike.

    As for the Vector vs Verge thing, I believe that the patents and copyrights controlling the designs of the Vector/Verge are controlled by Tern. So I'm guessing that if a model called the Vector is released by Dahon in the future, it will be a very different bike. Look at the new Ios from Dahon. Very different bike from two years ago. Price difference between the X20 and X30h... If you look at the components, you'll see why the costs are higher. A $1000 higher, I'm not sure, but Sram Red isn't cheap.

    most likely some truth to it...
    I expect the vector p 8 ..which is a muP8 with vector frame from Dahon first, when ? I have no idea ...
    The verge 10 20 30 are in stock and selling ....
    the 20 has a couple of very expensive components, which make the bike a real stunner, carbon cranks, powertaps red shifter to name a few ... its a bargain if you compare other bikes with those components, is it overkill for a folding bike... maybe .. but its sure a real nice, light bike ..
    The hinges are different on the verges, so is the handlepost , both are stiffer than the Dahon hinges. But its still a folding bike with long leverages in the handlepost and seatpost. If all out speed is of outmost importance than a "regular" superlight road bike will make a difference
    just that a regular bike is only half the fun

    I've got the folderitis so looking to stay within folding bikes. I also like the fact that I can fold my bike and put it in my trunk easily or bring it with me on the train or bus. Hopefully the local bike shops here will carry Tern bikes so I can check them out in person.

    Wanted a lighter and faster bike than a Brompton M3R and saw a good deal at a local LBS for the last batch of Dahon Vector X10 so decided to go with that last December, instead of waiting for Tern Verge X10 which is only at a pre-order stage here.
    The only obvious difference I can tell (besides the colour scheme) between the Vector and the Verge is the handlepost latch.. my X10 has the same OCL frame latch (or at least it looks exactly the same). So for my needs and budget, I think I got a decent deal.

    Is the Vector X10/X20 actually sold anywhere?..
    From what I understand... it is kinda impossible to get it right now, am I right?..
    I read (but I don't know where so I can't tell you the source, so I can't verify that it is right) that Tern owns most of the licenses/patents for the vector so It's going to be difficult to Dahon to keep on doing it (unless without modifications).

    I suppose it depends on which part of the world -- over in Singapore, the Vector series: X10, X20 and X27 were sold from middle of last year but by year's end, LBS here were doing stock clearance sales.

    Tern and Dahon Taiwan/Global are the same company (read the bottom of http://dahon.com) so if the Vector X10/20 is a Dahon Taiwan's bike there should be no patent issues. If this is the case though, the Tern line may supersede their Dahon models.

    Edit: the Vector is listed on Dahon Taiwan site (dahon.com) and not on Dahon China site (dahonbikes.com) so it seems to be a Dahon Taiwan (also Tern) product. If so, it will be interesting to see if they will keep selling it or switch completely to the Tern brand.

    I was told my Dahon USA (or whatever they are now called) that they will be recieving some Vectors by the end of February 2012, specifically, the Vector x27h. I have ordered this model through my LBS so hopefully I will see it in the next month or two.

    Latest date for Vector x27h is May. I hope I see that bike then or I'll br looking at Tern or BF.

    I know this is few months old but where's the source for Tern owns license/patent for Vector series? I always wonder why the verge/vector looks almost the same. Also, other part that was used in some dahon was changed. Look at the seatpost Postpump 1.0 and 2.0 Biologic says "built for tern".

    I think part of this is being litigated in court right now between Tern and Dahon. What Tern says though is that all the Dahon patents were actually held by Dahon Global, which became Tern. Dahon China and Dahon North America are staying as Dahon, but I think there's a licensing agreement or something that permits them to use the Dahon Global/Tern owned patents.
