Seems like a few of us have new BF's either here or inbound. Lets post pics and talk about the new bikes.



Here is mine, my shop is in the middle of an expansion and the owner was too busy to do the build to day so he let me do it and double checked me. Saved me the shop fees and let him get on with the remodel. Was nice to use a real shop with proper stands and tools and have free expert help available.

The bike is actually the british racing green front half and black rear triangle but it looks all black in the pics. Waiting on a few bits and pieces to finish it up.

Very nice! Looks like you got all the parts in the right spots. I assembled my Pocket 8 (it was packed in the box when we picked it up in Eugene. Biggest job was finding and cutting all the zip-ties...lol

Having tools and a work stand is very helpful. I now have a pretty good set-up in my garage, except for the "expert advice" part. I have to read books or go online to get that.

But I thought they shipped prebuilt, only needing to be unfolded- not so? Do you have a maiden voyage planned out yet?

Was mostly assembled. Which is probably why my shop owner thought I could accomplish the build out

Actually unpacking the carefully packed bike took some time, they do a nice job. I had to attach the stem and handlebars (pre-cabled and wrapped). Install my (non folding) seatmast. Installed my seat and pedals. Installed the front skewer and wheel, wheels needed a little truing, adjusted the brakes.

I also had to assemble and install the rack, which I need to look at it's not quite level.

All in all took me about an hour probably would have taken the shop owner 1/2 that time, but I was reading the directions etc (for which I am sure I was giggled at)

I still have fenders to do and I need to get my fit dialed in.

BF is one of the few companies from which I've ever received [cup/cone] hubs properly adjusted. That is, there is a small amount of play in the bearings that just disappears under full quick release tension. As Shimano, in my experience, doesnt send OEM parts out this way, that means they're taking an extra step in the assembly process. Good luck with the bike, pay attention to the headset adjustment, more important with long steered bikes.

.. looks like a generic road crank 130 bcd type, so a 39-53 probably..

my BF build must have been on payday, lots to do over,
since the mind of the mechanic was elsewhere.

Mine is in! But with all that fussing while I waited semi patiently, now that it`s here I haven`t even opened the box yet. I was out for a weekend tour when it showed up, then I got home and my commuter was covered in mud from top to bottom, drivetrain squealing and gears skipping, rims gritty... had to get it bathed so I can go to work tonight. Now I have to deal with all the dirty camping gear, then hopefully get myself a nap before I go in to work. Pics... someday this week?

Mr Jim, I was wondering about your drivetrain too. Is it in fact a 39/53? What cassette range? Mine has standard road triple with 11-28 8 speed.

What other options do they have for shifters? I'm not a fan of bar end shifters.

I was scheduled to talk to one of the BF reps today to talk over my order, but
we couldn't hook up before he had to leave for the day. Maybe tomorrow?

Pretty much anything currently available, as long as it doesn`t present any compatibility issues. What kind of drivetrain, bars, and shifters do you prefer?

EDIT: I don`t think they can do downtube shifters.

Just placed my order. It won't arrive until the beginning of April, but I told them there was no hurry since my Thailand trip isn't until August/September. Now, I need to re-think the color and call them within one week if I want to change it. I ordered the Pocket Rocket Select Custom, (basically the PR Select with a longer frame size than what they offer). Almost ordered a SRAM Rival bike, but for just travel purposes, the Select component group is fine enough. I can always swap stuff out whenever the time is right. Also ordered their Samsonite case and travel kit; and the collapsible rear rack.

I have mine together and pretty much dialed in, took it out for a few miles today. Over the weekend I`ll put together a tube and tool bag, strap a pump on somehow, and take a longer ride into town. If I`m still happy with the bar and brake lever positions by the time I get back, I`ll go ahead and wrap the bars, then it`ll be ready to say "cheese"!

I started working on a collar for the lower stem to mount a front rack to- hope to have a rack ready soon, so I can put the bike to real use. I`m going for a one-week tour in early March, and getting ready for that will probably keep me from finishing the rack until after I get home.

If you haven't solved your pump problem, you might consider a Lezyne Road Drive. They go up to 120 lbs and attach to a bracket that you bolt under a water bottle cage.

Oops. Upon closer inspection of your pictures, it looks like you already mounted a pump under your top tube.

F2, I know that the Llama accepts bigger tires than the NWT, but didn`t reqalize that it had a different rear triangle. In what way is it different? And yeah, I`ve got some pretty good diversity in my stable!

Volo, I threw an extra Mountian Morph with bracket on the underside bottle bosses thinking the pump would interfere with my feet, but that didn`t happen. I have a Lezyne mini floor pump (morph-type mid sized pump) and I like it quite a bit.

Speaking of bottle bosses... I`ve seen pics that show a pair of bosses on the back side of Friday seat masts, ans was expecting to get them on mine, but I don`t have any there . Is that something they stopped doing, or special request only, or does it depend on the model?

I asked specifically and they said that there were three sets of braze-ons. But, that was in reference to the Pocket Rocket Select Custom that is being built for me now. (I'm going to drop my "consultant" an e-mail verifying that there will indeed be three sets.) They are in the position that you indicate, (i.e., top and bottom of the top tube and behind the seat stay).

^^If they said you`re getting three, you ought to be okay. Can`t hurt to double check though.

Well, I guess it`s the removeable VS foldable mast that decides whether there`s a set of bosses there. Maybe because they don`t know how far in the removeable will be inserted? That seems kind of silly though, because the seat post is also adjustable, so you could actually use the combination of two clamps to adjust the height of a bottle cage without changing the saddle height. Oh well, a clamp-on cage will work too, albeit not so clean looking. I`m not planning to trust the underneath cage with full bottles, but it works fine for my pump, and maybe I`ll try to rig up a mini cage for an 8 oz fuel bottle.
