with loosing front mech and shifting by hand, maybe a dumb question, how do you avoid potential chain drop? i know with a single chainring you can use a chain guide/guard to stop chain slipping off, that what i had on the bike originally. But would that also work ok with a double chainring? the guide/guard would need to be bigger to allow room to change over but that might then allow the chain to drop into lower chainring due to side waving?

Using your existing crank arms would make it difficult to use a chain guard, although if you used extra long bolts and some chain ring spacers you might make it work. Unless your chain is currently rubbing on the chain rings there doesn't seem to be an issue with the chain dropping from the big chain ring to the little. I would just remove the FD and see if it works with out a chain guard. The original set up had the big ring on the inside of the crank arm spider and the chain guard on the outside, so there may be some chain line issues but hopefully not.

What is going on with xootr's site? It seems like a scooter site now.

Thanks,
Yan

Even at the Swift's peak, I think scooters were 90% or more of XOOTR revenue.

I'm sorry to hear. It's a tough business. I have been a full time professor on top of running Downtube. I imagine it must be difficult if it is full time.

Thanks

Human Powered Machines in Eugene had a Swift version in their Build catalog .

I think he builds JIT, when the customer orders it so, it's not really an Inventory item.

Though there is a sample to test ride, I expect..

Is Human Powered Machines still operational? I've been trying to get in touch with them but their phone goes straight to a strange answering machine. Plus no reply to emails.

I posted in the other topic, they were still around a month or so ago when I was last in. The Christmas schedule might get strange, but we should be beyond that by now. Closed Sundays and Mondays.

Reply here (quote this message) with some details of what you're looking for (trailer? folder?) and I'll see if I can round up some contact info, and maybe stop by the store. Where are you?

Was looking for a Swift Folder but decided to just order one from Xootr. Thanks for the offer to help.

Change fork

For any of you who have changed the fork does the stock swift fork have a 1 inch or 1 1/8 inch steering tube diameter? I am planning on switching out the stock fork but im not sure if buying a fork with 1 1/8 steerer tube would work.

Xootr only Selling scooters?

It was my understanding Xootr was sold out of Swift bikes and no longer importing them.
Is that true?

I contacted Xootr a few weeks ago and they confirmed that they had a stock of Swifts in their warehouse. Not sure if they are full bikes or just frames.

After receiving your message I recalled what I had read previously, and your message referencing "just frames", is what I had read previously and should have stated.
Thanks for the wake up call!

Is that in the U.S. ? What if you wanted a spare frame in the UK?

Would a frame come with seat pillar, headset & stem? They are a bit too specialised to pick up separately.

In the past when they sold frames separately they came with risers, seat posts and headsets. I think some other headset will work but the riser and seat are essential.

Their stock is held in the USA so getting one from there to the UK could prove costly - unless Donald Trump does a quick trade deal with us!

Ugh. He's tainted everything good in life even the Swift Folders thread!!! I'm sure any deal he makes will cause us to go Bankrupt as a country, that's what he's good at.

My understanding is they're no longer importing them, but they definitely aren't sold out. I just bought one last week.

You can still order them on the website.

I contacted Steve @ Xootr today (Feb. 17, 2017) and he told me they still have Swifts available for sale.
8 speed complete bikes in size S M L XL are available in SILVER only.
Single speed bikes available in BLACK only.
Frame set available in BLUE & SILVER.
So if you're looking to make a purchase at a GREAT PRICE, now is the time!
Good Luck

It really makes me wonder why anyone would buy just a frame, when you can get the frame complete with the entire single speed package for just $50 more...

I've gone back and forth on that one. I have been seriously considering building a swift drop-bar fixed-gear. If I did that I wouldn't keep a single part from the SS. I would only get the SS for the black frame.
