Origami Mantis

I decided to go 20s again and discovered Origami thanks to the forum. I was interested in the crane at first but considering the attractive pricing and me missing my 9fs, I decided on the Mantis. Paul, the owner, was very prompt and informative on his replies via email and to others on the forum that it convinced me to try and order the Mantis (usually I wait for reviews and feedbacks from the experts first).

I got the Mantis a week later and out of the box found it to be well designed and quality built. I thought the bike seemed bigger than expected, maybe coming from a 16 inch and/or bike being white. Even though it has full suspension, the folder I think it looks simple and minimal. I installed the front wheels, did some tightening, then took it to the lbs for the usual adjustments.

Ciclavia was a few days later and I had the opportunity to ride the Mantis. It surprisingly fit in my Scion IQ with rear seats folded (yes it has rear seats). The full suspension became handy when i dealt with rough roads a few blocks from my parking to the Ciclavia bike route. As expected, the ride was very smooth. Riding the mantis felt natural to me that most of the time I forgot that im riding this for the first time until i hear a question or a complement (i.e. is that a folding bike?, nice bike, nice rig, comfy!, who makes it?) I like that it sits higher compare to my previous folders. Im 5'9" and the seat is almost at the lowest it can go.

As long as my back and ankle are ok, I look forward to casual riding again. Thanks again Paul for all the help and info and more power to your business.

P.s. anyone local (los angeles) and interested and would like to check out or test ride the Mantis, feel free to contact me.

Congrats on your new bike! Looks great, and I bet it rides as good as it looks.

Enjoy many happy miles on it!

had a chance to enjoy and little ride again on my neighborhood. i also changed the handlebar grips and added some lights. i didnt really expect that this folder fits like a bike that i already own for a long time.

here it is next to my curve sl. most likely ill sell it soon since the mantis ride and feels much better, especially the size and height.

I'm thinking of getting a Mantis myself. Are you still loving it?

Thanks for the review. I've never heard of the Origami brand before joining the forums.

My wife and I rode CicLAvia this past weekend. She borrowed a friend's Dahon and fell in love with it. Since then, i've been in the market for a folder for her (and partially myself, although i already have a bike).

You can never have too many bikes.

Hey, I'm in that third photo! Green shirt. I recognized my LA County Bicycle Coalition sticker on the side of my helmet!

Hi mdbdt! Do you still have the mantis and are you liking it? Looking to get one myself just wondering how its treating you and if you've had any issues.

Thanks in advance!

The Mantis has seen some improvements since this one was made. We now offer provide better brakes, fenders, rack, a 7-speed gear set, and a much - improved paint job.

The Mantis was always a very good bike, especially for taller riders, but now it is even better.

Thanks Paul. Is there a full spec sheet that shows what components are on the mantis?
