Bikes: 3 folders, 2 recumbents (1 is electric), 1 recumbent trike, 1 touring, 1 mountain, 1 road bike -- So many bicycles, so little time.

Have you tried the A.H.S. folding handlebars?

I just came across a folding handlebar that comes in straight or trekking style. They fold back like wings flat against the bike frame when you want to make the bike narrow, for bikes that don't flop the handlebar down alongside the wheels to fold up.

Here's a link: ergotec - Handlebar AHS-Premium / Comfort.

The curved ends are removable so you can slide twist shifters and brake levers and such onto the bar. The angle of the curved ends is adjustable from flat horizontal to fully vertical.

Have you tried one? Seen one on a bike? Opinion?

Humpert has a German address, but ROC makes a lot of bike stuff for other branding companies , so they may be the actual manufacturer.

And I found that KlickFix makes a mounting bracket that is custom-designed to fit onto the joints of the folding A.H.S. bar so you can mount various bags.
H.bar adapter Humpert AHS - NOT JUST BIKE bicycles and sport accesso .
I haven't yet found a U.S. supplier for it. Shipping from Slovakia may be expensive.

there are several variations on the folding bars concept floating around. the "humbert humbert"* shown in a previous post seems to be the least interesting or elegant of the designs i've seen. here are a few others:

i think this one is the snazziest:
