Hyde Park Folding Bike Society (UK) 2013

It's that time of year again, cold as it is you know it will be ok once we take the plunge, so shall we do it - Sunday February 3rd is looming ?

(and what about some new members, eh ? With all these folders scooting about london these days, someone must be interested in talking bikes and other rubbish over a pie or two)

I'm in - I daren't risk using my Vitesse HG7 2008 though as it would most likely disintegrate.

Nigel has a brilliant idea for a ride that would take HPFBS international; plus we could drop by the Porsche showroom in Berkley Square and have a trial fit.

Nigel: When did you get a hub-gear on your Vitt?
Funny story - Bloke gets HG7 for his girlfriend, she dumps him, I get a HG7 for 150 squids - the broken hearted are such easy marks. It also has that weird millipede thing on the chain; No Cracks so far (though I do ride like Laura Ingalls on the way to Sunday School).
Do come on the 3rd, it promises to be a hoot.

"Porsche showroom in Berkley Square and have a trial fit"

Indeed. Folding bicycles only make any sense when they are transported around in forty-grand German sports cars. They are quite unsuited to public transport, I find.

So a piece of card with 'Hello Mum' is not good enough. We could wave our Society ties.

'Never give a sucker an even break. (brake)' - 'Tis true, they are a bit spongey and squeal when wet.

My Vitesse still has the Rotolos on - they are surprisingly long lasting and shock absorbing.

Yeah, the Rotolos are pleasing things.

I can make it - (perhaps the word "quorum" is putting people off).

Origami Phoenix Monthly Cycle Ride comes to the deep south this Saturday !

March 9th SHEPPERTON

Meet at the Cafe Mocha D, 8 High Street, Shepperton TW17 9AW from 10:30am for an 11:am departure.

Getting there :

By Train :
There is a half-hourly service from Waterloo. From the station, ride straight ahead down to the end of Station Approach, and the cafe is almost opposite in the service road on the main junction.

By Road :
Shepperton can be accessed from either junction 11 or junction 12 of the M25. The recommended parking is the Manor Car Park, TW17 9JT at the top of Church Road (if approached from the High Street), which is pay and display 1.50 for the whole day. There is very little parking around the station or on street. Lots of yellow lines, so be careful if parking on street.

The ride :

We will travel outward via the Shepperton ferry (3gbp with bike) and Brooklands then along the Basingstoke canal to lunch at The Plough at Horsell Common. We return skirting Woburn Park (no, not that one). Total distance about 24 paved miles.

Anyone, HPFBS member, or not, interested ?

One of the few things I miss about working from home now (rather than being based in Victoria), is my Dahon commute from Queens Park, taking in Regents Park, Hyde Park and sometimes Kensington Palace Gardens (I know - a bit of a detour but on a lovely morning......)

Ya, the HPFBS has had some blissful rides in the Royal Parks. Come along, do. Unless you're up in Scotchland?

That's where I am. Now down in London only a couple of days a month and it's Gatwick express rather than folder

Good-oh. Weather forecast: Ye cloudy raine from ye Northern territories of the morning-tyme, most brightly and fulsome later.

I'll bring the Euro-Vit Plov-Hon.

Edit: I have a spare pair of new Rotolos if you would like them. I'll chuck them in the car. Euro-Vit now shod with Kojaks.

Lovely that this is back on.

Pencil me in for September, as I have rather a serious (non-folding) cycling commitment to train for before then.

(Still possessing the now pretty beat-up old Mezzo)

You'll be horrified to note that our 'clubhouse' by the lake, once a fine place to dawdle, has become even more shambolic than ever.
