You think Dahon makes REI's floder?

I was in my local REI store and was looking at their 20 inch folder.
Do you Dahon makes it for REI?

Was a 8 speed I think.
Shifting in the hub, whatever you call it. New to all this.
Price was $599 plus you get 10% back if you are a member.

Heres the link.
Its a 7 speed. Not 8.
How does that price compare to a comparable Dahon Bike?

Thinking of buying one...

There's a well-known history that Dahon (and I think Tern now) has sourced bikes for REI. Josh hon commenting there is the founder of Tern.

Lots of fold in half frames are made in China by other factories too.

given REI stands behind it, for warrantee after the sale, who they got to make it, matters little.

Alternative to baseless speculation over the web, by Outsiders,
ask the Bicycle department at Your local REI store who the manufacturer is
and get the answer direct from them.

If you look at the specs it has quite a bit of Tern components listed. It's Tern produced,...as someone's link above states!!!

Yep,had one. They had a blue one w/Nexus 8 and fenders for two years, then went with the Nexus 7 and ditched the fenders for like a year. Disappointed that this new one lacks fenders, post pump, and the integrated bell.

Do they provide spare parts for their Dahons?

service flows back up from your dealer, ask the place that sold you the bike, first.

I agree. REI is great at standing behind their bikes.
Plus I think you get the 10% rebate.

True, but 10% is 10%.
Like on that bike, you would 60 bucks back, but you have to spend it at REI.

I'd buy it if I am on a market for another folder.

REI stands behind what they sell. I like shopping at REI.

I've got an REI Novara Flyby. On the left chain stay it says engineered by Dahon. I bought it when they had their regular 20% coupon, which applied to the Novara line of bikes. I got the 8 speed IGH. I'm also disappointed with the loss of the fenders, and pump on their current model. I had some new wheels built for it. I'm using a SRAM 2 speed automatix hub with coaster brake, laced with 451 rims. Works great for my multimode commute. I bike just over a mile at each end of the bus ride.

Do you still have the original rims?
If so, do you want to sell?
I am northern CA.

@SteveKK, I've been holding onto the original wheels in case I start riding all the way. Also another friend with a folder has been talking abou doing a camping trip with bikes, and I would need the 8 speeds for that.

now whether they paid Mr Hon for use of his design is a separate question..

Still could be made by another factory.

DaHon licenced Tom Richey's Break away Design, to offer a China based built version.

then again there are lots of Copies of stuff made , with out so much as a thank you..

nah those have been sold by Dahon to Rei direct. I am not all that giddy about Rei as their shop performance is variable to say the least ( I took care of a handfull of frustated Rei customers ) But they do have a couple excellent bike departments and the rest is above the average of non bike shop standard.
Having said that Rei would not buy a bike with a brand name stamped on it if it is not legit.
