Hi all,

Looking to get a set of Scorchers for my Tikit. Most Tikit owners reference the TR (kevlar) version. Besides the advantage that it is less prone to getting punctures is there any difference as far as ride comfort between Kevlar and non-kevlar tires?

define Comfort, in your mind.. are you used to riding sewup tires ? Silk casing or cotton?

Hi,

Comfort is a lot more to do with lower tyre pressure and the
wider the tyre you use the lower the pressure that rolls well.

Kevlar is used in the puncture protection layer, which doesn't
extend to the side walls, and the sidewalls have far more
effect on comfort and rolling as long as they are different to .
the main tread. It really shouldn't affect the performance
of a good tyre at all, really good tyres have no protection.

I've seen studies that concluded that Kevlar lined tyres roll significantly worse than non-kevlar. Actually I think it was the same study that claimed that Scorchers roll better than Brompton yellows or Comets, and was probably conducted by Greenspeed (hmm). I think the Scorcher I have is Kevlar. . . it has the checkered reflective sidewall pattern that I find to be sodding ugly.
