Strida EVO - 18 Who sells this bike in the USA?

Found a few videos/reviews, looks like an interesting bike for my first folder, where can I get one in the US? The internet search has let me down, although I found places in Asia, France, Russia and the UK to order it,...

The website was a little wonky yesterday on my computer at least, finally got this info from it, but so far all of them that I have called do not stock the bike.

They seem to pop up on Ebay and Craigslist at least once or twice each month (new and used). However; keep in mind that there are cheap, knock-off, fake "Stridas" out there.

That said; if you find a used Strida for sale, make sure it's a REAL Strida.

Unfortunately, I'm not knowledgeable enough in the brand to spot a fake versus authentic Strida... but I'm sure there's been a tread post or two here on BF about the fakes, so maybe a search through the forums could help in this matter.

I have called over half the people on that list posted above now, (I did not get this list yesterday because my "flash" was a bit wonky on the pc I was using), and none of them stock the EVO 18 model except the guy in BC Canada....

I saw the "fake" Strida warnings as well, but I would hope the odd and expensive 3-speed crank for the EVO 18 would price it out of the pricerange of the fakers - hard to fake that part. As for the fake ones, the lack of "Strida" stickers and the $300 price would stand out.

Hi all, I am the guy in Canada with the Strida EVOs, as far as I know the first one I sold was the first in North America. I am a Strida fan and have been the only Canadian dealer since July of this year. I would be happy to try and answer any questions, cheers Bill Wilby https://www.bikeforums.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

It looks like they have a 16" and an 18" tire size.

Welcome to the forum! Have you kept in touch with that customer that bought the EVO ? Perhaps you could persuade them to post some more pics or comments about the bike? I am intensely curious about the bike since it has a number of unique features not found on other folders. The 18 inch wheels, the 3 speed crank, the different philosophy on frame geometry, disc brakes - all in all a very unique bike that I think I would like to own. But I think I would like to have a local dealer, at least one in my state.

Thank you for the welcome, I have not heard back yet from the new EVO owner but I expect to. We have winter now and it snowed a little last night so not much riding here until the spring. I like the Strida but it is of course some what different than what people are used to. I encourage people to try it and most are surprised how comfortable and easy it is to ride. Grand Forks is located on the Canada /U.S. border and many people here go south for the winter, if I hear of someone going your way with a Strida I will let you know. I just sold an SX to a customer who is taking it to Mexico, in the trunk of his car. This is the U.S. distributor, https://www.eccyclesupply.com/
I don't think they have imported the EVO yet, cheers Bill

Interesting, SA designed 3 speed crank. Well, seen enough - let's get this bike in this country; but alas - I, myself, am in no position to deal with the hassles of being a retailer of this bike. Having said that - after watching the videos of complete "noobs" pedal this down the road, is impressive enough to believe this design could really be a hit. The reason they went with 18" wheels is obvious when you see the 16" wheel (old design) single speed riders on the same frame take it out in city traffic. I think this version hits it out of the park, IMHO with my checkbook out.

A quote I found on the forums linked above in this thread.

"If the drive is durable - which we cannot know yet - it might be the best innovation ever presented by Ming cycle, I mean."

wow that's actaully not a bad price! the real funny thing is this is cheaper than the original 2 speed with the schlumpf drive. The 3 speed strida has basically made the 2 speed obselete to sell any further. I already see the US and HongKong distributors don't even stock the 2 speed but only the 3 speed now. Hill climbing was the weakest part for my single speed strida since you can't just stand and mash the pedals this would change the game significantly.

if the seat height is set correctly and you replaced the seat with a big butt sprung seat then it's pretty comfortable. I did a 60km charity ride with one and had zero problems. With the oem seat it was "hurtin" going even 3-4km

Interesting. Is the ride quite upright? I know I can get down reasonably well with my Brompton.

According to the specs on that site, the EVO weighs 4.6lbs more than the LT. I see the wheels are different, but that's still alot of weight in the BB.

I'm just sayin',internal gears are neat and all,but a rear derailleur system would work on this and you'd not only get a better gear range, but save quite a bit of weight to boot.

Yes, Strida is designed to be ridden upright. One can "go down" if you position the saddle high and install the optional bent handlebar; it would make the ride rather unsteady though.
