First folder - Speed TR

I have been on the lookout for a folder for a while and got this on Friday. Intended use is touring and general use. Bike is obviously second hand but the seller claimed it had probably done less than 500 miles and the condition would suggest that is realistic. The front wheel is a bit out and the brakes and gears need adjusting but that shouldn't take too long. It came with the Dahon rear tour rack but no front rack. So I need to buy a front rack and some mudguards.

Can anyone identify the year? From googling I think it was probably 2006 but I am not sure. It has the Thudbuster seatpost and the front hub is not the dynamo hub.

I'd guess 2006 based on the graphics. Presumably the thudbuster is tapered towards the top so that it won't clamp when fully inserted (I used to have one of those)?

i have a dyno wheel and front rack from my 2009 Speed TR for sale. it's still brand new. never used it at all as i upgraded my TR's front wheel to a Dahon Kinetix Pro. let me know if you want them. where are you located?

by the way - NICE first folding bike.

chagzuki, Yes the seatpost does narrow. I only noticed because the reflector was loose but it tightens lower down.

vmaniqui, Thanks for the offer but I am in the UK so the postage would be a bit high TBH I am happy with the kinetix comp front wheel. I could see that being able to recharge phones etc would be nice on a long tour but for most of the time the non dynamo wheel will be better.

drop by a bike shop for show and tell in person.

NB; some folding bike hubs are only 74mm wide ..

standard hubs are 100mm wide .... Id just buy or have built another wheel If I were you ..

thanks,
here's what i've done with my Speed TR. i myself didn't like the dynamo hub as it's heavy and wanted to have a lighter TR. i bought a Dahon Kinetix Pro and Kojak tires and installed it. an easy process and there's no adjustment needed. check with Thor of thorusa.com and he can help you with your wheel upgrade. he's a regular here on this forum and quite a nice guy to work with.

some people take their Speed TRs into interesting places... included smog-shrouded Shenzhen, the home of Dahon..
