Hello folding bike riders.

I am so glad you guys exists on the internet. Wanted to say hello since I am a newbie and share my bike with ya'll: Tern Link D8 with Brooks Saddles B67 Bicycle Saddle, Ergon grips, Cateye wireless computer, Serfas Thunderbolt USB headlight and taillight, Tern traveller bike rack, Ortlieb classic pannier.

I've owned the bike for about six months and loving every minute of it. I live in Los Angeles and ride my Tern to the train station. Having a folding bike has completely changed how I commute and it is life changer. I know don't have to rely on anyone for transportations. And If I need a ride, no need for a bike rack, just fold the sucker up and put it in the trunk. I wish I had discover folding bike 10 years ago.

I've uploaded photos of our bikes (my wife and I). Looking forward to meeting you all and reading everyone's wonderful post.

My next wish list for a folding bike will be a Brompton or a Mezzo.

Ho slamboogie! Welcome to the forum, always entertaining in here and good people. Congrats on your new bikes and nice photos, lovely coastal setting there!

I love my Brompton and if you get the folding bug it's understandable but those Tern D8's are so versatile, and good quality, would you want for anything more? Having said that the Brommy is a mighty fine bike and super-compaxt fold if you also need that.

Here's me advising you with 4 folding bikes in my stable lol!

PS. If you want to use a bike for commute n'go and get on crowded trains like I sometimes do in London then the Brommy makes a huge difference.

Thanks for the info mulleady. Yes, I love my Tern but I also need the Brommie for the compactness during my work commute, especially getting onto crowed trains.

Then there is no better bike for that purpose IMHO.

A friend of mine was looking for a nice bang for the buck folder with a good ride. I had the pleasure of vicarious bike shopping while we discussed different bikes in a long series of e-mails. In the end he bought a Tern Link D8.

He does not commute with it but wanted to be able to toss it in the back of a car (actually, to put a pair of them in the back of a Nissan Juke) and do day trips, short rides. His wife rides to the gym and just takes it inside and puts it in a corner. I am looking to forward to checking it out when I go to visit him in a couple of weeks. The wife and I will bring our brommies and I am sure we will do some bikes swapping to discover, first hand, the different characteristics of two very nice folders.

Doublediamondog, my wife and I love our Tern Link D8. It's light, zippy and very responsive for the an entry folder. Definitely worth the buck. We also have test ride the Brommie and also like it very much. Both are great. But the Brommie is a notch above because of its extreme compactness. We plan to get 2 Brommies so we can ride wherever we are in the world during our travel. Love the fact that you can take the Brommie as a carry on.

hate to mention it.... despite some folks who claim to take a bicycle into the cabin for carry on it seems 100 % impossible to do that, at least on all US carriers I have been on in the last 10 or so years. Just saying....

Just saying...

Definitely no chance of carry-on on most airlines globally. Checked in as a regular up to 20-23kg suitcase, for sure!

We haven't tried to carry on our Bromptons. We have gate checked them in Ikea bags (many don't bother with the bags). We also have the b-bags to check them as regular luggage - complies within the magic 62" requirement.

Just be careful and check the welds often on your D8..... it's becoming an issue now that the D8 frame is falling apart and causing injuries!

Thanks for the heads up @SyPhillips about the Tern Link D8 frame shearing in tow. My D8 is still in excellent condition. It's only 7 months old but I just purchased my Brompton M6R and is totally loving it. Brompton totally out perform my Tern.

Two more Tern frames snapping in two reported on the Tern forum. This time an Eclipse P-9 and a Verge X-30 .. riders seem to not be seriously injured .. If I were a Tern owner, I might consider parking the bike while the company gets a handle on what's happening .. all the frame failures are with bikes catastrophically breaking in two .. in all my years on the Dahon forums, I don't ever recall this happening to any of the Dahon models .. something to think about ..
