    Dahon Speed P8 arrived today

I'm very happy with the overall quality and thankful to the members of the forums who kept me from making a very big ($1200) mistake.

The only thing I didn't expect with this bike is a minor one: there is no magnetic latching system. The bike I have is fitted with a plastic latch. Did Dahon retire the magnetic latch?

Edit: I also just noticed the gear cable wasn't fed through the last frame loop. Not sure if this is a mistake or common practice.

Also, all new Dahons have a 30th anniversary emblem on them, right? They didn't accidentally send me a $5000 Limited Edition, right?

I got a speed p8 yesterday. they dont have the magnetic latch either. the plastic doesnt even hold. Im going to home depot and buying velcro and going to wrap it around each side of the bike and have a "tab" sticking out so that when it I close it i can just stick the tabs together.

Replacement magnetic fittings for Dahons are pretty cheap and easy to source. I assume all the Speed frames are unchanged, if so its an easy fix? Good luck and enjoy your new folder!

It's the part with the spring: There's a bigger plastic housing that it goes into and is supposed to snap in but it comes loose. It doesn't really snap in.
I added the velcro, it's one of those velcro things that stick to itself. I just wrap it around the other part of the frame when it's folded and stick it onto itself. $5
A lot easier than dealing with the snaps or the magnets that may not stick together

Weird. I've generally found the magnet system to work well, I don't see why Dahon would change it. Though I guess this is lighter. I wonder if the mount on the fork is still the same and therefore if it's possible to use the old system.
