Brand New old Mu SL

Hi everyone,

This is my first post here.

I've just bought a Dahon Mu SL in absolutely as new condition. It is clear that this bike has barely been ridden at all. I've taken it out a few times and it is fabulous.

I've read a bit here about the recall that happened relating to some 2008 Dahons. I gather that that was a US only thing (I'm in Australia) However, I was wondering if anyone remembers enough about the event to cast some light on whether I should be concerned about my handlepost hinge?

My serial number is D710717706. I'm led to believe that the bike was originally purchased in the USA.

Reading this page: (http://www.thorusa.com/dahon/technical/recall.pdf) I have all the requirements for being affected by this issue.

I imagine that any official follow up with this is unlikely however it would be great to know in what manner these hinges failed.

Perhaps I should simply replace the part (assuming they are available somewhere) and be done with it.

Any thoughts, opinions, memories?

cheers, Mikey Floyd

I think mostly this was a very ghostly recall.. ghostly in the sense that there were 2 or 3 posts cracking at the weld. I never saw one defective but replace quite a few at the time. However I think very very very few of the T handlepost were actually affected.

You definitely should watch the stem and than should try to find the AUstralian Importer and let him know that you need a handlepost with a R in it. They should be able to help

Thanks Thor,

That's good information. I will do exactly as you suggest.

Cheers,
