I'd this bike please from a vague description

I saw an interesting bike I could not identify.
Could someone post a photo if we can work it out?

It was a compact folder , looked like 349 wheels. It had tubular main tube, and was in a bright colour. Green or orange I think. It looked high quality from what I saw, I was driving at the time.

The real unusal thing was their was a tube or handle runiing diagonally from roughly were the front hinge is on a brompton, to somewhere around the top of the folding stem. This bracket was the same colour as the frame and may have been part of folding mechisism.

So basically it looked like an amamaco folders with crossing tube members at the front.

Any ideas. Sorry it so vauge , but I would be interested if it can be indentifed.

My first thought was Diblasi, or bike friday. But nothing had this feature when I goolged images. I don't think it was a brommie with a custom part etc either. The colour was not a colour I have seen before.

can we try approaching the q. from two angles : so, where were you driving when you saw the bike, also, as well ?
it aint the size of your wheels, its the rhythm of you cadence. And I got powergrips too.

not a downtube something - the vivid colour puts it in mind ? Still trying to work out the shape you describe though - its not a Dahon jifo is it ?

The Bike Friday Tikit has/had a recalled stem. The replacement stem is the same configuration as the original.

Its difficult to picture the bike from your description ( a sketch would help). Of course the older Dahons had a Stem Brace that ran from the mid way on the top tube to the top of the stem.

Its not an early dahon like this. The strut runs more along the frame , and it colout matched to frame. Also pretty sure bike was single top tube
Bike looked a lot like a brompton other than this. I did not notice a curve in top tube so I don't thinck it was related.

Again sorry about vaugness. I do my best to recall.
    Top tube detail
About 6 to 12 inches from the headtube their was at least one extra piece of metal going towards the bottom of the stem area. I noticed its fixture on the frame but not where it finished near the stem area. It looked to have a bolt connecting it to the main frame tube. I feel there was most likely one on each side connected with a single bolt?

Maybe the bolts acts as a pivot?
The metal piece was flat plate about 1 to 2 inches tall, rather than a tube and had several void areas (to keep weight down?). I don't think it was a handle as too far forward.

The metal was the same bright colour as the bike so it looked oringinal ie part of the bike.

Lastly its possible the connection nearest the seattube blended into the hinge. But then again I not be sure wether it had a hinge in the main tube.

The bike looked like a quality bike , I think it had a silver rack, mudguards and 349 wheels. It was ridden by an average sized bloke.

trying to show top tube detail with odd plate section going towards stem.
No its was not a jango or a brompton with childseat ( that I know of anyway)

this is the closest I have seen to it. its not this bike. The bike I saw had a simular detail on the top tube, but afaik no sign of a pivot on the main tube. Looked more like a friday or brompton than this. also the section above the main tube was flat with several square holes in it. there was probably one each side connected by a single bolt

the bike I saw looked like a bike with proper geometry, ie a proper commuter.

Was it defiantly a folder? Possibly a renovated and modified Moulton or Raleigh 20/RSW?

Tubing was round so not a Moulton. Not a tsr either. No I can't guarantee it folded. The bracket looked like it did, can't see any reason for bracket if not part of folding system.

I do think it had a hinge on the maintube.

Another idea was a mobiky, but tubing round and they tend to be silver. I do see the occasional mobikey, and the tubing is very low slung. Very Brompton like put I think it had straight top tube. Flat bars I think.

Thanks but not an airframe the struts goes the other way.

    Bigfish lack the struts.

I wounder if it was a brompton with a custom Quick relaese pushrod to intergrate stem fold with hinge fold. A bit like a bike friday, diblasi, or jiffo feature one way or another.

If the mods were added the part had been sprayed to match frame.

There is only one thing to do then, go back to place you saw it and wait for it to appear again, we need to know what it is. Take some food and flask of hot drink, you might be there some time.

I should have screethed to a halt in hindsight.
I do a upload a bitmap with the details. So maybe my mission is life is completed and I work out the mystery.

    Still no joy.
I thought maybe a far east import.
Googled 16" folding bike images but still the green bike is the closest to what I saw.
Looked through the worlds best thread "bikes we like", still nothing.
    Ebay nothing.
Looked at brompton mods on google, nothing.

I analysed several psychology studies that demonstrate that eye witness are memories are frequently interpretative, constructed and change with time and recall cues.

Maybe it was a hellicopter. ..............

My latest likely suspect is a bike Friday tikit ,fitted with rear rack. Wheel size is correct colours is standard, but frame attachment near hinge? I wounder if custom handle(made from metal?),or a water bottle could have been what I saw. Maybe this is the closest I get to identifying it.

The bosses along the top tube (mono tube?) are not standard distance apart. Fitting a water bottle cage requires modification of the cage or an adapter. The TIKIT ships with a cover and handle mounted on these bosses. For those not using the cover it is fairly common to use this location for other purposes. I had a top tube bag modified and bolted there. Perhaps the one you saw had a shoulder strap mounted. This would allow a very rapid fold and and fast carry. The excess shoulder strap could, when not in use, be secured to the stem as indicated in the attached photo.

There is standard water bottle bosses on the back of the seat tube.

tube up from hinge to seat post may have been a 2nd, toddler saddle.

seen those for Bromptons.. not made by them..

The "tube" was really a plate, proberly one each side. Several squre holesin these ( to reduce weight?). Monotube front maintube other than the plates.
They ran from where the front hinge is on a brompton to somewhere near the bottom of the stem. Not the seatpost. See picture of green bike and drawing.

Just realised water bottle idea is wrong as it was colour matched to frame, therefore also unlikely to be a child seat fitting of any describtion. Also the colur of the rear stays was the same as the main tube afaicr. I think the stem was simular to a dahon curve rather than a friday or brompton.
Silver mudguards and rack afaicr. V brakes also afaicr.
