1970 Puegeot Folding Bike

:) Hi All and Merry XMas

Just bought my wife a 1970 Puegeot Folding Bike. Mounted on Michelin 20" with inner tubes at 20 X 1.75 which need to be replaced as they are the originals. Please help, I want to purchase the best and or moderately priced inner tubes. What are the best brands to buy for these tires. I appreciate any input concerning the inner tubes. Thanks and have a Merry Christmas.

Make sure they are 20"! Some Peugeot folders had an odd ball 18" size. I use Schwalbe Marthon tires and Schwalbe tubes on my Raleigh Twentys, hard to beat for durability and flat resistance.

Got pictures of the bike? We love pictures!

Aaron :)

Thank you...

They are 20" for sure. Thanks, I'll look for those at either a bike shop or EBay.

Another question? On the valves... PISTA....OR Schrader Valves? Right now the bike has Pista valve tips....

PISTA..
The word is: Presta, Pista is a Velodrome circuit in The Italian cycling Vernacular .

Million pardons... You are correct... Why not answer the Question while you are correcting my post. Presta or Schrader? Bike came with Prestas.

Then the hole in the rim has to be enlarged to use Schrader(or woods-dunlop),
[and a reducing spacer will thereafter, also let you use Presta, in the bigger rim hole. ]

I'd just stay with the Presta valves. They work very well, and are readily available in the 20" (406) size. We have five folders - three with Prestas, one with Schrader converted to Presta and one standard Schrader (the wife's 1973 Raleigh 20). I think the Prestas work best.

Judging from the bikes you already own, you're perfectly familiar with prestas, so I would stay with them and not bother enlarging the rim holes. I would buy a four pack of tubes on the bay; 406 prestas are not a common size in bike shops. Even in NYC. As others have stated, check sizing first.

Gorgeous.

Interesting hinge and hinge lock mechanism.

Thank you all for your input, very helpful. I ordered a pair of presta valve inner tubes, funny that the UK had the best prices with free shipping. I'm glad to have picked this one up... Thanks again...

Yes I know, I've learned to say thank you and move on. Since I am familiar with the presta system, I went ahead and ordered them, but could not find the four pack, but will continue to look for them. Thanks...

FYI to OP - I get my 406 tires and tubes from a store in Portland, OR that specializes in recumbents. (They also sell Dahons and carried Bike Fridays, too, at one point.)

406 _20" is about the most common tire size on the Planet.

How do they do that? I've also bought things from Europe or Asia, sometimes for only a few dollars, and free shipping? I can't send a package to the next town for the whole cost of my order, and they can ship it halfway around the world. Pretty quickly too.

In Schraeder, sure. In Presta, not so much. Don't think there's a single shop in my metro area (1/2 million or so) that carries them.

I've gotten them stateside from this seller:

obviously confusing tire with innertube, if the availability of tubes is as you say , S/V only.
have someone enlarge the rim hole to accept a schrader valve stem.

another service of a Bike Shop.
