I don't want to cut fork yet, any ideas for a good looking handlepost spacer?
Hi all, I have a tern d8 and just found a dahon handlepost. The tern has a longer steering tube than the dahon so I need a 20mm spacer the same diameter as the bottom of the dahon handlepost, around 50 mm round and 20mm tall with a 1 1/8 hole for the steering tube in black. I have a carbon fiber 20mm space in there now, but it looks funny. I don't want to cut the fork yet...(once its cut...there is no turning back..hee hee). Any ideas?

so you are just worried about the looks funny issue?
there are single spacers machined in a 40mm length, or you can stack up a number of shorter ones ..
this is from the perspective of a regular threadless steerer fork ..
I have never worked on a 'Tern D8' so it may or may not apply ..
put the spacer above the stem under the top cap .. loosen the stem to adjust the headset,
while adjusting the preload the loose stem is, functionally, just another spacer.

yeah I know.... you ending up with that narrow slot so to speak ..... best if you find something plyable and just put it over the void... I am thinking something like one of those plastic sleeves where you hide phono cables in... find the right diameter, cut a little pieve off, and just click into intsel with a little overlap
