Help Identifying Specs of this Bike Friday Pocket Tourist on CL
Hi all,
My girlfriend is really interested in this BF Pocket Tourist thats currently FS on Craigslist: Folding Bike by Bike Friday-REDUCED He claims "This is a used 8 speed Bike Friday "Pocket Tourist" that needs nothing, works great. " I'm trying to figure out the specs, so any help would be appreciated: (and I apologize for my ignorance up front, just getting back into bikes and am new to Folders/ Bike Fridays!) Any idea on the year? Looks older to me. 1) Looks like a telescopic front stem? 2) 8-speed meaning only 1 front crank but 8 on the rear cassette? --So for touring, we'd have to swap out the drivetrain...? Any other issues you can see? I think $700 is a bit high, and want to offer more like $500-600. Thoughts? Thanks, Phil |
It's a lower end model. It's a left fold so it's not ancient. It may not have a front derailer mount ... I can't tell from the photos. You should expect low end components on this entry-level model. I'd expect that the mast doesn't adjust vertically but that the quill stem does.
It looks like this bike ... Bike Friday - Custom folding and travel bicycles hand-crafted in Oregon ... which is $800 new and does not have a front derailer mount. Bike Friday sells a 16 speed model -- front derailer -- for another $100. |
IDK if the Front derailleur mount is there , but you can certainly replace the rear hub with a Dual drive 8 by 3 , the 3 internal to the hub,
' and that would just be another back wheel I'm guessing easy pack stem and seat mast , which comes out , with that QR lever .. for packing. to quickly knock down. stem is a common Quill type. and want to offer more like $500-600. Thoughts? Cash is king on this bike. |
Okay, great, all this is good to know. Its clear that it would take a few hundred dollars to get this somewhere near Touring spec (and that doesn't even include a hard shell case).
I'm thinking this isn't worth much more than $550. |
