Yes, you can still get used Bike Fridays at a reasonable price these days.
A few months ago on another bicycle forum where I hang out, there were a couple of Bike Fridays for sale. First one was sold before I even responded, but the second one languished.
It was the Pocket Rocket Pro frame I wanted (Green Gear doesn't sell just frames AFAIK), but with a bar/shifter setup I didn't want and in a pretty bold color (raspberry). Mostly lower-end Shimano (Sora, Tiagra) components, Alex R390 rims with American Classic hub front, Capreo rear. Supposedly only ridden once by the original owner and packed away. Hmmm.
Waited awhile, price went down to $975 excl. shipping and paypal, and that included the Samsonite F'lite case and all original packing. Also included two painted stems, the curved stem for split bars and a riser stem for any 1-1/8" threadless stem. I knew the fit was correct, so at <$1000 base price for a PR Pro w/traveling case, I was all in.
I rode it awhile with the original bar setup (Shimano SLX and BF H-bars). Found it nice for ambling about town slowly but limited hand positions for most everything else, and I've never liked trigger shifters.
So I reworked it a little. Off went the SLX brake/shifters, H-bars and curved stem. On went the riser stem, 105 brifters and Nitto B-135 randonneur bars with honey leather tape and a short extension Bontrager threadless stem. Saddle changed to a honey Brooks Pro w/copper rails. A computer and Trek red blinky lights built into the bar-ends complete the package. First two pix are "before," last three "after."
So now, I've got a ~22 lb. folder that I put together for about $1200 and an afternoon's work. The raspberry color is starting to grow on me, didn't think it would.
They say they have made 40,000 of them over the years ..
