What speed do you ride?

Just getting used to my Raleigh Twenty folder and have been getting some pretty good speeds out of it (on the downhills).

I'm just wondering what sort of speeds people get out of their bikes? On the flat and flat out downhill with wind and will on your side...

So far I've got 30.9 mph on the downhill at the beginning of my commute (a bit hairy cos of a strange camber) and I usually cruise somewhere between 16-22 mph on the flat, though I'm about to fit a smaller sprocket (16t from 18t) and slightly bigger chainwheel (54t from 52) to get a bit more out of it.

What are people's experiences? Do all folder riders like to be speedy??? Or is it just me...!

Some maybe most folks that post on these boards seem to be concerned with speed. I am not. I live among mountains and worry about climbing ability. I bought my Dahon Speed 8 with a 38 tooth chain ring for climbing. I coast while descending. I did not get my bike with a computer as I figured that I would only embarass myself to know how slow I was.

Regards,

Gary

I've had my Raleigh chopper up to 40mph+ on a downhill run. I've already geared it up once by putting a smaller freewheel cog on it, and I'm close to doing it again. With the SA three speed, I can keep up with most big bikes at cruising speed.

I don't care. I don't have a bike computer. I get to work in between 1hour15 and 1hour30 depending on the weather. I'd rather be enjoying the ride than looking at yet another computer screen. I do that when I get to work.

No computer here, either, but I got the info from another rider who had one...

I'm in Florida, can't get any "flatter" than the big swamp. I cuise with my girlfriend (both riding Halfways) in an average of 14-16Mph.

We can sprint up to 24-26Mph but that's in a good day at the very beginning of the fun. (:

A couple weekends ago a guy on a Dahon SpeedPro and another on a Lightning recumbent joined in on a local club ride. Neither had any problem keeping up as we cruised rollers in the mid-to-high twenties, with a few bursts into the thirties. The Dahon took a few turns at the front. He had the Rolf Prima Accel wheelset and all the bells and whistles. Very snazzy, fast machine.
