Schwalbe Marathon Plus on Flamingo: 1st impressions

I might be paying a high price for durability (fewer flat tires) - not just the retail price ($CAD46.30 at JV Bikes in Vancouver and CAD68 at Caps New West), but also in comfort and quiet.

Compared to original tires it feels like I am driving a tank now. Plus while the sound and sensation of crossing sidewalk separators used to be blips now they are BLIPS.

Have your tried the Marathons (not Marathon Plus)? You would give a bit of protection but they are not as sluggish.

Not sure how big the diff is between Marathons and Marathons+, but I never had any complaints with my Marathons. When I changed to B. Kevlars they only felt slightly faster with no change in the comfort levels.

I have the Marathon plus tyres on my Brompton and I have no such issues. I find they have low rolling resistance for the protection they offer and there is only a minor difference to the normal Marathons. Yes they are heavier but then I never specced my Brompton to be lightweight as it is not a performance bike and I roll it when folded.

Even regular Marathons ride dead.
