I just ordered a USED Dahon Espresso,....

I ordered it off of eBay, and it looks somewhat scuffed up. As long as everything is working decently well and the frame is solid I'm good with it. The Seller accepted my offer (was asking $400, I got it for $300 - S&H is included), and has good feedback. I'll see what condition it's in, and most likely leave it beat up. I'm kinda rough with my bikes, so I'd have scratched the crap out of it anyways,....

So far I'm pleased. It's not the more compact Bullhead, and I'm hoping it's as solid as a Tern Joe. Here's to playing the "Waiting Game". At least this one will be arriving, unlike the Origin8 Bully fiasco.

I bought one 5 years ago for $500, new. It was a pretty good commuter
except for the back wheel going out of true; I weight 200 lbs. Sold it to
my coworker after a few months when I decided to get a roadbike.

I weigh between 202lbs-210lbs, depending on if I drink beer that week. Lol! I was 240lbs+, but I lost weight to try and control my pre-diabetes. I'm going to drop below 200lbs by the holidays (Christmas).

So, the bike has a shoddy headset and stem. Is it proprietary, or is it an easy and inexpensive fix? I'm all ready to return it, as the seller lied about it's perceived condition. If I can do a little work on it inexpensively I might keep it - and if not it gets returned C.O.D.

if u return it cod ... the seller who wasn't upright with the condition will NEVER sign for it and you will have to pay the freight back as well. Not a good idea
If you payed with paypal or credit card you can start a claim to get your money back instead. Than you can send the bike back as long as the seller pays the freight up front. But better is to fix it
all standard parts

+1

You seem to have quite a lot of buyer's remorse... be good to gain the knowledge and fix it. Look at it as an opportunity to learn something new.

I know I can fix it, I'm just not willing to overpay if the parts are proprietary. I'll give it a once over and see if it's worth it. It'll be my hobby bike. Especially since the only thing that I'm dealing with is waiting on a Sturmey-Archer 5 speed shifter. Even my NuVinci N360 hub is working correctly.

Remember, there's buyers remorse and then there's getting shafted. I'm thinking some of you have more unlimited funds so it might be no issue to you. Or maybe you have a nice parts bin,... I don't have either.

Thank you. I took your advice and contacted eBay. I'm awaiting some assistance as I type.

My comments weren't condescending, they were about me basically sucking it up and just fixing the bike. Depending on what happens I might, but the seller on eBay lying isn't buyers remorse, now is it? Some here have more time & resources than I do, as well as a place to do mods and repairs, I don't. I'll fix it if I get shafted,... It's as simple as that.

Edit: Looks like eBay has come through! I'll be sending the bike back via free shipping!

Um, I actually had to do a lot of overtime to get those bikes. And compared to some of the bikes you guys own my bikes are bargain basement priced!

Definitely there are lots of us like yourself here that have to work hard and pinch pennies to afford our passions and hobbies. The money is yours and hard earned, so you deserve not be be ripped off.

That said, as others mentioned the espresso is a standard 26" bike other than the folding mechanism. I have the Jack which uses the same frame and I have upgraded mine over a couple years with donated or rummaged part transforming it into something I really like.

Although you are already getting it refunded, but had you decided to keep the bike, the main thing I would have suggested you confirm is that the folding mechanism is working properly. Everything else on the bike can be stripped and replaced - as and when you can afford the parts. But if the fold is damaged, it's not worth the trouble.

Better luck on your next choice! Keep us posted!

.... and you have way nicer bikes than I have!

OK, I gave the bike a good once over. It's got corrosion in the folding mech. The wheels are cruddy and but decent condition, the shifters are wonky, and the frame is severely gouged. The seller LIED!!! It's definitely going back,...

I think my issue with the whole thing is I buy, trade, and sell electronic devices all the time with others. I'm used to giving and getting what's advertised/promised. My feedback on sites is 100% positive, and I never lie or attempt to deceive anyone during a deal. I guess I expected better of this ebay seller, considering his good rating.

I apologize to anyone who I might have offended here on BF.

Have a great weekend!!!
